Music Performance audition

Hey everyone, I am looking to major or minor in commercial music for drum set... however I am running into a few problems.

1) I want to apply to Belmont for a major in commercial music for drumset. however the requierments call for performing with a timpani and marimba and i dont know how to play either of them! Can I just study the drumset at Belmont as well as audition solely for the drumset without having to play the timpani or marimba?

2) I would like to apply to College of Charleston as well as UTampa and Rollins College for commercial music in drumset as well... any info on their programs?

zlax, how you wandered into this part of CC is beyond me. I’ve requested the moderators move the thread here [Music Major - College Confidential](Music Major - College Confidential Forums)

These are two of the different audition parameters for percussion at Belmont:

http://www.belmont.edu/music/admissionaudition/audition_pdfs/commpercussion.pdf</a>
http://www.belmont.edu/music/admissionaudition/audition_pdfs/classicalpercussion.pdf</a></p>

Note that for the classical audition, all of the listed instruments are REQUIRED.
The wording for the commercial audition is different

My interpretation is that this reads as an audition on drumset OR snare OR marimba Or timpani, not on each. The wording is indeed cloudy, especially in comparison to the way the classical requirements are detailed. Do not rely on hearsay from an internet forum in verifying the info. Even if you encounter someone who auditioned previously, a program’s audition requirements CAN and DO change from year to year.

Your best bet is to call or email Belmont’s music department and request clarification.

There are a number of folks at the music major forum with Belmont experience, and a handle on some of the commercial music options. I don’t recall Charleston, UTampa, or Rollins as being names mentioned often, if at all.
