Music Performance/Business Major (Double)

Does anyone have knowledge of the possibility of pursuing a double major in music performance (violin) and business? Just curious -- I know that a performance major is so time consuming that it might not be possible. On the other hand, I have a family friend whose son just graduated from University of Chicago medical school and he also got his business degree concurrently. That has to be at least as difficult, I would think. Any thoughts or encouragement? If you have done it, or you know someone who has, what was the outcome and how did you (or they) manage it?

I was a music major, switched to business, switched to economics. It can be done, but it will require taking longer to do so unless you plan to take an insane amount of units. Music majors have lots of requirements-theory, aural skills, ensembles, etc. I am just doing economics now and taking courses in music ensembles and electives in music because I already had a firm foundation in theory, aural skills, and composition. Some people like the structured music degree- I mainly just gig more now and don't see the need to major in music also, but everybody is different...

The MD Business School program is called a MD/MBA- a joint program through medical and business schools- which helps medical professionals to have the skills necessary to run a private practice. You do that in grad school, not undergrad.

Thanks, IDMatter. I doubt my son could handle a double degree anyway. Just thought I'd see if anyone has done it. Sounds like you are doing well, and good for you! This whole music major drama is what prompted me to ask. So few slots for so many wonderful musicians and students. Do you know that there's any truth to a statistic that someone posted a few weeks ago on the music major thread, stating that 'more music majors are admitted to medical school than any other major.' I find that very difficult to believe. Does anyone have knowledge of that?
