Music Production - Summer Programs , and Colleges

Hey,

I am a freshman in high school, and I want to get into Music Production. I am thinking about going to the Ithaca summer program. But, for college i want a degree, an ACTUAL 4 year accredited college. So if you know an good 4 year schools, or know about the Ithaca camp, reply :D

Also, i play bass, guitar, and mess on my microkorg

There’s a link in the thread here that gives http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/878890-music-technology-industry.html</a> a pretty broad overview.

This http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/510498-music-festival-master-list.html</a> is the comprehensive list of summer programs, but I don’t recall much detail/discussion about summer tech programs.

My youngest, a 10th grader, just applied to Oberlin Timara’s Sonic Arts Workshop for this summer–a one week program

My son did a one week audio production workshop at Berklee a few summers ago and enjoyed it a lot.

University of Michigan has a very nice 4-year program (or 5-year MFA) at its school of music, and has a summer program called MPULSE in “Performing Arts Technology” (PAT) you can check out well before to get the flavor. It is by portfolio, and I don’t know if you’re too late for this year.
But it would be good to attend, because they require a pretty specific portfolio for the 4-year university program, and I suspect attending the summer camps helps.

The School of Music website is at [UM School of Music, Theatre & Dance](http://music.umich.edu) – I think the MPULSE is under other programs on the far right. The PAT department link is one you’d also want to review – 4 types of music production program, depending on whether you want performance as well, engineering, multimedia, sonic/film style etc.

Good luck and cheers,
K
