Music/Psychology DD

<p>Hello!
I am a junior, an international student who wishes to attend a US college.
I would like to pursue double degree in voice performance and psychology.
I only have started taking voice lessons this year so
I am afraid that my voice may not be developed as many others' are.
However, my teacher believes that I have potentials to be admitted to top-schools in my country if I practice hard.
I haven't taken SAT I yet but when I take practice tests I get around 2250~2300.
I am going to take SAT I in October.
After I take the SAT, I will devote more time to practicing.
My SAT II scores are:
MATH IIC-800
US HISTORY-790
I have taken 5 APs:
US HISTORY, PSYCHOLOGY, MUSIC THEORY, MICRO,MACRO-all 5
My GPA is 4.89/5.00.</p>

<p>For my extracurriculars.
I am in my school choir and we won city competitions last and this year.
also play a traditional Korean instrument and arrange music, member of a traditional music school club (possibly leadership position soon)
played the piano since I was 7.
and volunteer at the city children's hospital every summer and winter.</p>

<p>I am interested in SMALL schools with strong academics and musical environment.</p>

<p>Here is my list of schools I'm considering
-Lawrence University/Con
-Oberlin College/Con
-Northwestern U/Bienen
-Johns Hopkins U/Peabody
-Rice U/Shepherd</p>

<p>Musically, I realize that these schools may be reach for me but I am really going to try hard.</p>

<p>After searching on the net, I think I really like Lawrence U and Rice U.
Both schools seem very friendly and small. </p>

<p>Please give me advice both on academics and musics of these schools.
Also, I would like to know about academic merit scholarships at these schools.
Thank you!</p>

<p>You can try searching double degree as well.</p>

<p>Thank you violadad!
I read the posts you suggested and searched for more.
I would also appreciate more comments on my specific situation.</p>

<p>If you’re interested in both psychology and music, you might want to consider majoring in music therapy. For more information on music therapy, go to the American Music Therapy Association’s website: [Welcome</a> to the American Music Therapy Association Website](<a href=“http://www.musictherapy.org%5DWelcome”>http://www.musictherapy.org).</p>

<p>hey im a senior in high school. what would be the best schools for music therapy and psychology</p>

<p>Mayrose, you might want to add Bard to your list as well. Lawrence and Rice are great choices, as are the other schools on your list.</p>

<p>You could enter as a BA student and avail yourself of music classes and opportunities, or you could attend as a BM or double degree student. Check and see whether the presence of a conservatory adds to the experience of a BA student interested in music, or detracts. Sometimes the BM students get first pick of classes and other opportunities, such as lessons, and sometimes not. Folks on here can tell you more about this at each school, or you can check with the schools themselves.</p>

<p>If you did a BA in music and psychology, that would be a double major, not a double degree.
[Double</a> Degrees | Peabody Conservatory](<a href=“http://www.peabody.jhu.edu/conservatory/admissions/tips/doubledegree.html]Double”>http://www.peabody.jhu.edu/conservatory/admissions/tips/doubledegree.html)</p>

<p>Academically, you are very, very qualified, of course, which will help your applications to the colleges. </p>

<p>Have you considered Tufts at all? They have a double degree BA/BM program with New England Conservatory, in which you could major in psychology and do music at NEC. Pretty rigorous program, that others can chime in on here. </p>

<p>Sounds like you have some great opportunities ahead. Good luck!</p>
