I want to play cello in an orchestra in college but am not interested in being a music major. im hoping this will help me get into colleges (BC is my number 1 choice) and also genuinely want to play in college. do i send in a recording to the admissions office with my application? or send it to the music department? should i get in touch with the admissions officer? i made a recording of the first movement of the brahms, and can also play trombone very well, but probably wont send in an audition tape.

Some colleges are happy to accept additional materials, others not. Contact the admissions office and ask them. They will also tell you where to send the recording.

I'm actually pretty sure Emory has a music scholarship. BU has a school of music if you're interested in Boston. But yeah, if you're really good, (we're not talking first chair in your HS band--we're talking near 1st chair in your local youth symphony or all-state band/orchestra) send in a tape. Limit it to around 10 minutes, playing varying selections demonstrating your ski-hee-zees (skills).
