Music Recruitment at top LAC's and Ivies

D has just made All-State Soprano from N.Y. Do any of the non-conservatory, top LAC's and/or Ivies actually recruit top musicians? I know that music can be a boost but can recruitment (or a similar situation) actually sure up, clinch or be an outright sure thing for an early admission at any of these schools like with a recruited athlete? Please assume that grades/academics are otherwise borlerline for RD.

For LACs and Ivies, all state recognition will take second place to grades and standardized tests. Terrific EC for them to consider though but there's lots of competion.
Congratulations by the way.
Consider looking at music schools attached to good universities such as Northwestern and Vanderbilt and Rice--you don't have to sacrifice academics. The music schools are extremely good, give the kids opportunity to double major (difficult but doable) and meet kids outside of music (sometimes you just have to have balance).
For the most part, schools don't have a budget to do recruiting similar to the athletics money generating machine.

congratulations! But keep in mind that state and even national recognition is not uncommon at the most selective schools. In other words, its no sure thing.

Congratulations. In NY about 900 kids are awarded all State status. I don't have any national numbers but there must be at least 30000-40000 all State students/year. There is probably an equal number of very talented musicians who either don't try out or are not accepted. The value of all State status is minimal and no, top LAC's do not recruit for music. This in no way diminishes your D's accomplishments. It is just a big country with lots of quality applicants for a few very selective LAC's.
