Current UT Students: I am really into music (concerts) so I wanted to know about the music scene at UT. Do a lot of different kinds of musicians come through Austin/UT? Does UT itself get quite a few bands? I would imagine that there are student bands at UT...What genres?

Austin is the live music capital of the world - it has been for years. Music is Austin. Genres range from opera to death metal - any kind of music you want you'll find in Austin. Tons of performances come to Bass Concert Hall and then there is the Frank Erwin Center on campus. Then you've got Emos which has tons of different bands each night, and you can always find people playing on street corners.

I'm not a student (yet, I've already enrolled for fall 2007), but my sister lives in Austin and I'm there at least five or six times a year. Music is what Austin is known for, so you'll find whatever you're looking for without a problem.

"Austin is the live music capital of the world"

^says it all

alright, thanks :-)

"Austin is the live music capital of the world"

that deff. explains it all, i live in austin and there is deff. alot of music by the UT (downtown) area..

SXSW & ACL?
Enough saiddd :)

BS is correct. We live in San Antonio and frequently go to Austin for concerts. What kind of music are you into? You also will have access to the larger venues, as well as its own underground scene, in SA, which is only 1.5 hour's drive away.

This is one of the many reasons my son, a metalhead, hopes to attend UT next year.

I'm into rock in almost all it's forms: classic, ska, punk, some emo, alternative...

Thanks everyone :-)

Haha, I love ska.

Everyone makes fun of me for it :(.

sorry to hear that...we could go together next year (if we both go to UT)
