I'm going to be a freshmen in college next year... i'm already finished all of my applying, but i'm curious... what are the music scenes like at big colleges?

Are a lot of people "into" music? (as in into punk, underground type stuff not on the radio)
Are there a lot of musicians? (I play bass, and more than likely i'll be bringing my bass and probably an acoustic guitar to campus)
Are there college bands? (I play in a pop-punk band at home, and i'm just curious as to whether a lot of students are involved in bands)
Are there a lot of local shows? (As in house shows, and shows with local bands at small venues around campus)

I'm just sort of looking for general answers, or just the way things are at your school.

The University of Texas has one of the best music scenes. Austin is known as the “Live Music Capital of the World” and has more music venues per capita than any other US city.

South by Southwest (SXSW) and Austin City Limits are the biggest music festivals there. Austin has all types of concerts, all genres, with shows every night/day.

I can almost guarantee that your favorite artist will eventually play in Austin. Even if you’re into indie music, a lot of famous indie bands go there.

Obviously, the answer will be different at every school. I go to the University of Alabama. Most of the concerts I have been to have happened at the frat houses on campus. I did go see one show in the basketball arena which was ok.

i love pop punk and i can play guitar/drums. hopefully we’ll go to the same school and start a band haha.
