I got an email from northeastern this afternoon inviting me to audition for a music scholarship (apparently they give 3/year). Does anyone know any more about it, especially how many people audition/how selective they are? I couldn't find much on them...

I don’t know about music in general, but I have a friend with a huge scholarship if he stays in the NU band. The practices are sometimes annoying, but he gets to go to all the good games for free, like the Beanpot.

The music department scholarship is specifically for band instruments, it is for 10k/year and given to three people every year. They invite all students who expressed musical interest in their application to the school–but be careful if you are a strings player, because even if they sent you the invitation, you are not eligible (I found this out the hard way). If you end up auditioning though, the process is like any other… prepare a short solo piece, expect some sightreading. It’s a casual process, but almost every band member tries for it (obviously). You must take part in two music ensembles to maintain the scholarship if you receive it.
