I already heard from the main school that I've been admitted, and I have an audition Feb 4. I was just wondering if anyone would know how long it generally takes to find out admission to the music school.

My son didn't find out until close to April, I believe. (I would have to look it up to be sure, but I'm out of town right now, so I can't do that.) He wasn't able to go for an audition, but sent in a tape in November.

Just curious but what instruments?

I'm applying on cello =)

Hmm...I was hoping to hear earlier...I hate how long I have to wait for a decision from ANYWHERE for music.

My son auditioned yesterday....my husband went with him, and they're not due back until tomorrow (we're in NJ, and they drove). I thought my husband said they were told they would hear in 2-3 weeks. I'll find out more when they get back and post here.

Thank you very much! And good luck to your son!

My son plays trumpet. I am home now and checked his acceptance letter. It was dated April 5, 2005. However, I know the trumpet instructor called him at least a week before that to tell him.

Some students may find out earlier. My son's tape was not that good, and they had to call his private lessons teachers before deciding to admit him, so perhaps that made it take longer.

Good luck, cellogirl!

Hi Cellogirl -

My son came home from the audition with a brochure from the Trombone and Euphonium faculty, which stated that the Music Admissions people start processing the applications and audition reviews right after the audition dates. It said that notification would come 2-3 weeks later.

Good luck to you!

Hi, I got my acceptance just three weeks after the violin audition, which was Feb 4 of last year, but the (pathetically small... which is why I went elsewhere) scholarship offer didn't come til April 1.
Best of luck!

Son was admitted to main school December 2004. He sent in tapes for oboe and composition by January 1st and heard back at the end of March with admittance into composition and oboe studio. It was a long wait with some correspondence coming from them in between.

and he studies oboe with whom?

He's at Lawrence U in a double degree program doing 1st year bootcamp for his BM in composition and in Howard Kniblock's oboe studio, and is able to add classes next term to begin his government degree! It is a perfect place for him. He turned down the larger schools for a smaller one in the end.

I study with LOUIS ROSENBLATT in Philly. He was a student of Marcel Tabuteau and I like this arrangement very much.

That's great! Philadelphia must be a fun place as well! My son looked into the east coast schools and only applied to the Bard conservatory in the end (east coast wise). Are you studying for a performance degree? Being a parent of an oboist, I kind of understand the training and time and energy involved. Good luck to you!

No I am an academic but I did spend 8 lovely summers at Interlochen where I studied with Dan Stolper. I think I will always play ......... just not as a professional.

That is interesting. Do you play any other instruments as well or just the oboe? I ask this since my son has given up the sax since it messes with his embrochure. He does use the keyboard though for composition and he messes with the guitar. But that darn oboe, he loves it. But he is kind of all over the place right now exploring.

English and Oboe........a doubler as we are called. I used to play piano a long time ago. I don't have the free time to devote to all kinds of playing around.

Thanks! Yeah, I can understand that. :)

My daughter auditoned in cello last February and received her acceptance within two or three weeks.
