Music School (Piano)

I posted this on the music major forum but have not yet received any replies, so I thought I’d try here.

Hi! I am a rising hs senior planning on majoring in piano performance. I am hoping to attend school in South Carolina and was wondering if anyone has any information on University of South Carolina’s music school, specifically piano. I have done some googling and looked on these forums (music and u of sc) but have not found much information on USC’s piano program.
Right now, I am hoping to attend a conservatory for grad school, so a relatively good chance of getting into a good grad school is important to me.
Thanks for any help!

I would contact/call someone in the department. Don’t know what kind of information you are looking for. You can look at programs of study to see what the course progression is like.

Now would also be the time to attend final senior recitals/performances so that you can hear the quality of student performers and possibly meet their teachers before the the close of the current term. Check out all the possible colleges near you for performances so that you can get a feel for facilities as well.

UofSC is over for year - doubt there are any more student recitals. However the Southeastern Piano Festival is in June and showcases great musicians and has a good involvement from USC faculty. Maybe talk to head of undergraduate students at music school to start. Not sure what his instrument is but he has D that graduated in last couple of years that studied piano (not sure if performance or not).

@scmom12 Thanks for the advice! I will definitely look into attending some of the SEPF and will try to talk to a faculty member. And thanks, @awawupl. I have already looked into all of my local options and am now trying to look at some farther away places. Maybe I can visit USC early in the fall.

Do you know if there is a place listing recent grad schools USC music majors have gotten into/attended? I saw a video on the music school’s website listing jobs and grad degrees of graduates but it was a little confusing for me, haha! Thanks again for the advice!
