Anyone apply or attend The Hartt School or the UConn Music School? Results or reviews?
There is a wonderful music community on this site if you look at Music Majors. They will have a wealth of information for you!
Thank you!! @Happycamper85
You are welcome, @adoptdontshop ! My first child was a music major and the folks on that forum helped our family tremendously. For some reason my old user name and password failed me when I came back to CC for my second child, so I had to create a new one. That’s why I only show up there once!
I have been going to the university of Hartford with the community division for years, and for me I feel as if I don’t love it as much as some of the other schools I have looked at. Also, depending on the instrument, the teachers may not be as good. I applied there and didn’t get much of a scholarship which is probably why I won’t be going there but I would recommend taking a lesson with the desired teacher and doing a tour or something to see if you like it. Personally, I am not much of a fun of uhartt. I have heard good things about UCONN though!
Thanks for the info @musicviolaplayer. Yes UCONN has a great music program. Unfortunately my D didn’t get accepted:(. But she did get accepted to Hartt. She’s pretty excited. We visited the campus last summer and she really liked it. We’ve heard all good things about Hartt. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t very good. She will be studying vocal performance. We will be visiting again next month to check out dorms, etc. She hasn’t made a final decision yet as she has another acceptance to look into. However, the Hartt School is a better school for Music anyway. She is also waiting for one more college decision.
D3 earned a BM in music performance from Hartt four years ago - PM me with any questions. Her experience was on the whole positive, although she was ready to move on by the time she graduated.
Thanks @stradmom Did your D go to grad school after?
We have heard good things about Hartt…
@adoptdontshop she chose U Colorado at Boulder for their emphasis on health in performance, and is now completing her residency at Civic Orchestra of Chicago. This week she just did a performance with YoYo Ma.
@stradmom that is so cool
