So, I'm applying to MIT as well as a couple common app schools. I'm going to do a music supplement but was wondering if I can "cut and paste" my recordings.

One of my pieces is 7 minutes and to get every section perfect in one go is practically impossible! Is it just possible for me to take the best recording of each and put those together??

(Obviously, I can do this if I'm going to have a .mp4 but MIT actually asks for a .mp3!!)

Anyways, thanks so much for the help!!

To cut and paste separate movements is one thing. To cut and paste within movements is contrary to what is implied and expected.

The purpose is to demonstrate an accurate representation of the event, as it was recorded.

If it’s just a supp and you’re not applying for a music school or conservatory, I see no problem in cutting and pasting. Unless it specifically says to not edit your piece, go ahead and do it.
