music supplement CD

I plan to submit a common app arts supplement, specifically a music CD, but having difficulty choosing pieces of contrasting styles that fit under th e10 minute mark... I have 2 I want to submit, which are 20 minutes and 8 minutes.

Is it acceptable to include only an excerpt from each piece in order to cut them down to 10 minutes??

Thanks in advance for your help.

I thought you're supposed to post it online and provide a URL to the file.

You're definately supposed to send in a CD.
I'm not sure if excerpts are okay- I think some schools specifically disallow them. You might want to write in to ask. However, are you sure you can't find pieces that fit in 10 minutes? What instrument do you play?

I play violin, and although there are of course contrasting pieces that fit within the time period, I don't feel they showcase my best.
What I'd really like to provide is pieces of tchaik violin concerto and some unaccompanied bach...

Thanks for your help

According to the commonapp, you're supposed to provide a URL for the arts supplement for those schools that accept it like JHU for instance. Schools require a CD only if they do not use the commonapp arts supplement. Make sure you know what your school wants.

No, there's an option to send the arts supplement in on paper as well.

hey guys, sorry to bump up an old thread. but i kinda really need this question of mine answered. thanks in advance!!!

anyway, i'm sending in a CD under the arts supplement (i asked UPenn's admissions office, they said 'yes'). but under the common app -- future plans section, there are 3 options for submitting the optional supplement. and they are "yes", "no", and "yes, but i will submit it via PAPER". which one do i choose? obviously the first or the third choice. but which?

i'm gonna submit the resume online (the only way i can do that), CD along with the supplement form BY MAIL. does that qualify as "VIA PAPER"??
