Music Supplement (non-classical)

I’ve been reading through quite a few threads on whether I should submit a music supplement but can’t find one particular to me.

I’m applying to Harvard and have the grades and extracurriculars, but I am wondering whether submitting the supplement will do my application good or harm. I’m not applying to be a music major and music is not the “grab” of my application, but I’m a pretty good guitarist. I want to submit a 3-5 minute blues solo, but I am not sure if it will be annoying to the admissions counselor to have to “waste time” and listen to something that isn’t classical or jazz. Is blues guitar a valid genre to submit?

Thanks for the help!

Do you perform in formal events? Are there programs for those events that list you as one of the performers? Would the music director for such performances write a glowing recommendation. Do you take lessons? Would your music teacher write a glowing recommendation for you? Are you planning to create a professional supplement with the help of your music teacher? If the answer to the above are all strong “yesses” then submitting a music supplement would definitely help your application.

I’m definitely not going to submit a professional resume but I do take lessons. I hardly ever preform but I go to plenty of “jam sesh’s” around the community. I don’t need teacher recommendations from my music teacher because I have it from something else I do. I just want to know if merely submitting a music supplement of blues guitar would help or a hurt an application if it isn’t the centerpiece of it.
