Music Supplement questions

Hi,

I recorded a video of me playing the Appassionata and a Chopin etude that I want to submit as an arts supplement to the common app. My question is, should I submit the video, or extract the audio and submit that? For my colleges that accept the arts supplement, I was just going to put the video (or audio) on youtube and link to it on the app. Some of my colleges, however -- WashU and UPenn -- say that while they don't accept the online arts supplement, I can still submit a tape of me playing. Should I make a DVD or CD and send it to them, or send the youtube link in an email to the admissions office?

Also, while the sound on the video is very good, it's not professional quality -- the bass seems a little too heavy and punchy. Colleges realize that not everyone has access to professional recording equipment?

I would suggest calling the admissions office at WashU and UPenn and asking them which format they would prefer. If they say that either one is fine, then send them the video unless it shows something that you would prefer they did not see. Likewise for posting the video to Youtube.

Colleges do realize that not everyone can take the step of being recorded by a professional, particularly if they are not applying as a performance major.
