Music Supplement

I have a few questions regarding the music supplement. First of all, I am no Beethoven like some of the previous posters I have seen. I have not been playing (the piano) since before i could hold a spoon or participated in national competitions etc. I do however consider myself to be above (average) and since I absolutely love playing I would like to send the supplement. The thing is though that most of my piano playing is done by ear and i have been able to eloquently figure out some of my favorite songs. Would it be possible to send a supplement of me playing an actual song (eg. Apologize by One Republic) or would i be confined to playing old compositions (eg. fur elise)

Ok, here’s the deal. Unless you have the background and skills to assess your own talent objectively across a broad base of peers, what you consider may not mean much at all.

A more realistic assessment would be input from a musical professional, or experiences that allow you to objectively view (and place) your ability across a wide range of [potential peer applicants. These experiences could include audition based summer programs, playing locally, regionally on a paid basis, or the input of your private instructor.

The key is to be realistic, and realize the incredible amount of talent that is out there, and at the same time, not sell yourself short by not-submitting.

And a lot will depend on the schools where you intend to submit the supp. May make a difference at some, and not a hill of beans at others.

The more you read, the better understanding you’ll have.

Good luck either way.

i look at it this way. if itsnt that good, you wont get rejected because of that unless you are applying to a school as a music major or to an arts school. it can only help you if its good. thats why i suggest go for it unless a lot of people have told you that you are not good
