Music Supplements

While I am probably submitting an art portfolio with my application, I’m also wondering whether it’s a good idea to submit a C.D. with a few songs I’ve written? It’s all very good quality, state-of-the-art stuff… though it is more likely to be labeled as “indie” than “classical,” as far as a genre goes. I’ve read what Brown suggests, and I know these types of supplements (supposedly) have very little to do with acceptance, but could it hurt me to go against the grain?

It'd be really cool if someone had a suggestion...

OK, here's a suggestion. The admissions committee will send your supplements to the appropriate departments to review, and the quality of the supplements will likely not impact their decision. The committee IS interested in the FACT of your interests, and in the depth of your involvement in them. Sending two supplements might seem like you have a somewhat scattered interest in art and in music, without getting too much into either one. On the other hand, if you can suggest, through transcripts, extra curricular classes and on-going involvement in both art and music in and out of HS, that may have an impact.

thank you very much, I guess I'll decide what is most appropriate.
