I have my IU graduate audition this next weekend, and am also taking the music theory assistantship exam/audition…anyone have any experience there with this, or heard how many people they take for it? I’m just wondering whether I should still do it, because I haven’t had as much time to study/review from my theory classes as planned and don’t know if I have any chance of getting it. Do a LOT of graduate students tend to audition for theory assistantships, or is that one that not as many grad students want? I also applied for accompanying and teaching private lessons assistantships. Any info would be appreciated, because I don’t know much about it yet/what they need/expect.
My guess is that a number of the composition graduate students end up TA’ing in the Music Theory courses.
Or the theory grad students
Yes, @SpiritManager is correct. My son is a freshman and the instructor for his theory drill class is a graduate student in composition.
