music while studying?

Who here listens to music while doing homework, studying, reading etc?
What kind of music do you listen to?
Does it help you concentrate?

I listen to music for my literature class depending what book it is. Right now i'm listening to Vanessa Carlton.

I listen to music while im doin homework on the comp or reading a book that I don't have to get into too much. I listen to all types of music. I basically listen to whatever is popular...rite now I'm listenin to Usher!

i listen while doing some homework (usually if i'm typing, or doing math, etc.).... but if i'm stressed or having having trouble concentrating i turn it off..... I listen to Jeremy Camp, Barlow Girl, and other Christian music......

i always listen to music. sometimes it's the classic rock station...usually it's from my CD collection. although if i'm really stressed, or have a lot to do, then instead of my typical rock (inclusive of any subdivision within it) i'll usually put in the LOTR soundtrack, or some classical.

dance, linkin park and jayz, top 40, rock, and evanescence.
I do like Rob D's "Clubbed to death".... pure music

Everyone keeps telling me classical is the best, but I really don't like that type of music and I find it distracting, so I just put on whatever I want. I try to use music that is more instrumental than lyrical, because hearing a lot of other words distracts me, especially when I'm reading.

Damien Rice is a good bet. Very soothing.

I can't stand to listen to music while I work. I adore music—I am a musician myself—but I can't work with it on. I always want to listen to it if it's there, so I can't get ANYTHING done.

always have music playing on my computer - homework or not

Same here.

For more instrumental music: Brad Mehldau- Live in Tokyo. One of the best jazz albums around.

For those with esoteric and atonal tastes: Bjork-Medulla. This album is completely creative and very unique.

mendelssohn... bruch... tchaikovsky... verdi... i love classical specifically romance

Any sort of smooth, melodic trance usually gets me in the mood for work. Artists such as ATB are always favorites. Listening to hardcore techno and psytrance is more fun, but impossible to get any work done!

For studying purposes I listen to classical music. Anything with words makes me concentrate on the music too much, plus classical is soothing and such. It's also been proven to be the most effective in aiding concentration.

Heheh only when I'm doing boring busywork like Calculus homework. Other than that, I'm afraid I'm one of those people who needs a relatively silent place.

(Although it can't be too silent. I once went into one of those soundproof study rooms at my library, and I just couldn't focus! Every page I turned seemed so loud, I was so self-conscious.)

I cna only listne to music while doing math homework/studying. it doesn't work for other subjects

try using earplugs when you study. it seems to help me a lot. i just hear the rythmic beating of my heart.

i guarantee you that music while you study is probably just going to distract you. classical music / light background music at MOST.

cujoe,

mendelsssohn is amazing. i'm playing one of his songs thats just crazy ***** at my orchestra.

listening to lil jon always helps me get thru my homework.

I can listen to R&B and some pop while doing homework/studying but never while doing homework that involves heavy reading. Latin pop and cumbia are OK, usually. No salsa or rap. I don't listen to rock or classical. I also can't play my Bjork CD or any weird music like that while doing homework.

It's funny...I can listen to all kinds of music, even the radio or TV, but if I can hear someone (especially my sister) talking in the other room, I can't get anything done. I sometimes get so ****ed off I just turn off all the lights and take a nap. I just can't work when I hear people talking.

lol @ jaug1..I just noticed you mentioned Bjork's "Medulla." That was the album to which I was referring in my first "paragraph."

i usually listen to my soundtracks ( lots of soundtracks) form films for hw music.

I listen to classical, it blocks out outside noise, and any music with words distracts me

i use techno music so I get pumped up and actually do my stuff.
Either that or jazz...
