Music You Listen to Pass the Time

@GoldenRatio Haha right, totally embarassed when I insisted it was Rihanna and then my friend showed me it was Sabi -___-’. And actually yesterday I remember my sister had changed the channel to an iCarly rerun, and when it ended this show came on…it was like that show with karate stuff or whatever. And I literally screamed and shouted at her to change it because my eyes were metaphorically burning. I actually want to name a few shows that I hope will get shut down real soon…because I’m bored. Dog with a Blog, that teenage mutant ninja turtles show (what happened to the show about the madagascar penguins??) Vinnie & Wendall or whatever, Marvin Something, Jessie (if that’s even still going). Is it odd that this conversation turned from songs to Nick shows? lol

Haha, it’s odd, but at the same time, not odd at all. Threads on CC have this knack for going off tangents!

Karate? Gosh, don’t start. I have no idea what garbage the channels are shamelessly advertising now. But I do know that those turtles are really unpopular with my school. I know, what happened to the lemurs? That was cute! :slight_smile: However, I don’t know half of the shows you listed, but I guess I should be proud of that, from the way you describe them!

@GoldenRatio Yes you should :P

@UKGirl, I qualified for ICYD day in Oxford Uni last year from a small British private school in Athens, Greece and met a guy from Westminster called Archie something. I came third but was nonetheless impressed by this elusive, je-ne-sais-quoi eccentricity-all-good-speakers-since-the-dawn-of-man-have-been-endowed-with quality he seemed to possess. This is getting quite creepy, excuse me.

I personally love all Vampire Weekend songs! :)

@fayasi I was there as well, my first debate competition!
I know what you mean about the private school boys, they’re just so polished in all their speaking, even if they aren’t very good debaters. Was that the team that got to the final?

@UKgirl Yes, they were the finals’ team. I was really surprised by how good speakers they were, although a bit bitter because my team missed finals by a point. Oh well! Are you considering debating extensively, as an extracurricular? You are very lucky that you are in the UK, then, because you attract the majority of BP-level competitions.

Strange that Britain has most British Parliamentary competitions… :smiley:
I’ve debated quite a lot since then, I did Mace, LSE, Oxford Union (2 rounds!) and I may be doing ICL in a few weeks.
I find it very strange that I probably met you last year! Do you remember which room you were in for the first debate?

Well, I suppose my approach in the matter was erroneous, but my slight jealousy remains. I now live on the other side of the Atlantic which does not help much as far as travelling for debate competitions goes, plus my debate season has been jeopardised by a recent Ontario teachers’ strike. I have snatched two medals so far, though, so I may be overstating the harms precipitated by a largely teacher-defined public educational system.

I did my first debate in the lower room of the main library in the Oxford Union (there was a pocketed one upstairs, in case you had to debate there; quite picturesque). Here is a reference picture: https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/319891_3651818226999_230207777_n.jpg</a></p>

The second one had me debating at some elusive snooker room, and then at the upper room of the main library, reference picture being: https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/532714_3420155815616_1871192230_n.jpg</a> ! The bottom line is, even we have not been in the same debate room, we have been in the same place at the same time and that is wicked weird.

Oxford was a big deal for me, what with me being an international and being put through a much more competitive qualifying pool to start with, and also because I performed much better than I had expected of myself.

I don’t think we were in the same rooms, I was in a landing, then over in one of the colleges, then in the main library I think.
It wasn’t such a big deal for us as it was only about half an hours drive, and I was freezing cold the entire day. And they debates didn’t go too well (4th, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd) but it was still a great experience to be able to debate there. Coming 5/6th is amazing though, and you got such good speaker points!
