I'll copy a thread from HSL and ask: What kind of music is your favorite? Name some bands/artists you enjoy! It'd be interesting to know what CC is into :D

My all time favorite is the Grateful Dead :)

I’ll probably think of a ton later but usually I only listen to a handfull of bands at a time and this what I’m listening to right now.

I LOOOVE r&b music!

The Appleseed Cast, Arcade Fire, Atari Teenage Riot, The Avett Brothers, The Black Kids, Blackstar, Bloc Party, Bright Eyes, Bruce Springstein, Crystal Castles, The Cure, Datsik, Dirty Projectors, The Dodos, Fleet Foxes, Girl Talk, HEALTH, Kage, The Lawrence Arms, Lupe Fiasco, The Falcon, The Mars Volta, Mos Def, OFWGKTA, Passion Pit, RJD2, The Roots, Rusko, The Shins, Swedish House Mafia, Talib Kweli, The Tallest Man on Earth, Throw Me the Statue, Titus Andronicus, Voxtrot.

etc.

I like a lot of foreign music like Inna, Edward Maya, Alizee, Caro Emerald, Alexandra Stan, The True Star, etc.

I also love trippy 60s music from Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, etc.

A lot of music that plays on the radio is music I wouldn’t pay to have, not because I think it’s bad or because I don’t like it, but because I hear it often enough that I don’t need to own it and I never crave it. Maybe if show tunes played on the radio and pop and rap didn’t I’d like them more, but maybe not.

I also get the feeling that songs from musicals are really meant to be performed and not just consumed, and that they’re part of a larger story.

most top 40 radio music is bearable if it’s in someone else’s car or at a party, but I don’t have any on my computer nor would I willingly go to a club that plays that stuff (unless some friends are going, but I generally don’t like clubs). Same with electronica, although that’s largely because it just doesn’t do anything for me (I do appreciate why people like it though).

I’m into classical types of music. I listen to Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Bach, Schubert, Vivaldi, Haydn, Schumann, Debussy, Ravel, etc. but I don’t have a favorite classical pianist I guess. I listen to various pianists, orchestras, and soloists on other instruments.

^Evgeny Kissin, Martha Argerich, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Alfred Brendel, Van Cliburn, and Arthur Rubinstein are my personal favorites. Except for Brendel, they all have made wonderful recordings of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto no. 1, which is always a plus for me.

As long as you’re talking classical type music, my favorite composers are Stravinsky and Beethoven:)

Yeah, to be correct I just said “classical types of music” to mean anything from Baroque, 20th century, classical era, romantic, renaissance, etc…so any “art music.” “Classical” popularly refers to all of that, but to be correct, ‘classical’ is just the ‘classical era’ with Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and others, while Stravinsky is 20th century, Bach is Baroque, Schubert & Chopin are romantic, Debussy is impressionism, etc. you get my point!

My top favorites are Beethoven & Chopin.

I’m “musically-related” to Beethoven- my teacher studied with this concert pianist, who studied with this other guy, who studied with…all the way back to Beethoven. That goes for my current teacher and the new teacher I’ll have starting this fall in college.

Yep, those are all good choices.
