Kaskade and Cascada are two different DJs (is Cascada a band? I don’t know, sorry).
LOVE Kaskade, though. And all the dubstep love!

Also, HiAcceptMe, you went to EDC?!?!?!?! SOOOO JEALOUSSSS!!! Which EDC? I was going to go to Vegas but that fell through. I think we’re hitting up Orlando next year which should be cool (though Vegas would be soooo much betterrrr).

"Kaskade and Cascada are two different DJs (is Cascada a band? I don’t know, sorry). "
Yeah I noticed…sometimes I really should pay attention to what I am reading before I type :D

I love cascada! sings everytime we touch loool

@PrincessMahina: I like Inna too! :)

@RoxSox i agree, love Kaskade
I bought my ticket the day before off someone in LA (which is where i live) and I ended up going to the friday EDC in Vegas.
i dont have any other way to say this, but just the facts that it was EDC, I didnt have to pay for our huge suite, and that it was in Vegas, made it the best night of my life. i got to the front during tiesto’s set and i shook steve aoki’s hand.

GO TO EDC VEGAS. if u r gonna do EDC, do it big

@eastafrobeauty

Awesome!! I’ve never met anyone else who liked her too!:D

Adele, the Beatles, the Stills, Simon & Garfunkel, Queen, and Journey are my favorites. Cake is always a good listen, and I love the covers that Boyce Avenue does on youtube. But my go-to for the gym is Lady Gaga and for the shower, it’s show tunes or classic Disney all around. Hahah.

I’m discovering Mastodon. Perhaps a bit after the fact but nevertheless I’m discovering them. Blood Mountain is fantastic, I’m giving Crack The Skye a few more listens and I wanna get Leviathan. Their new album coming soon should be great.

Sam Tsui, David Choi, Christina Perri

James Blake, Jeremy Jay, Beach House, Iron & Wine, Eluvium, Explosions in the Sky, the xx, Fleet Foxes, fun., Band of Horses, Animal Collective, Beirut, Royksopp, Bon Iver, The Tallest Man on Earth, The Drums, City & Colour.

Sam, Kurt, and Mike Tompkins are my guilty pleasure music. :D

Metallica, Iron maiden, Buckethead, guns & roses, machinehead, megadeth, Skynyrd
no mainstream garbage for me :)

^^^finally

I’m surprised to see that not that many people listed metal bands. Oh well. I like I can tolerate many kinds of music, except Nu-Metal and most overplayed songs on the radio. I favor Metal and Indie music the most (including its various sub-genres). Well these are only some of my favorite bands:

Tegan and Sara, Eisley, Helloween, Nachtmystium, Rilo Kiley, Iron Maiden, Los Campesinos!, Metric, My Morning Jacket, Between The Buried And Me, Amon Amarth, Eminem, Arcade Fire, She & Him, Radiohead, Megadeth, Built to Spill, Bright Eyes, Animal Collective, Portugal. The Man, Ladyhawke, Sigh, Joy Division, Iced Earth, Mastodon, Nightwish, The Flaming Lips, Amesoeurs, Muse, Pink Floyd, The Clash, Death, Overkill, Converge, Led Zeppelin, Rainbow, The Stone Roses, Kreator, Broken Social Scene, Rata Blanca, Bad Religion, Carissa’s Wierd, The Postal Service, Judas Priest, Masta Ace, Stormlord, A Fine Frenzy, Metallica, The Mars Volta, David Bowie.

He does. It’s called brostep. Skrillex is NOT real dubstep.

^Oh, c’mon, everyone agrees that brostep is a silly name for it, lol. I’d call Skrillex really filthy electro house anyways. He’s sort of a mix of a lot of genres. I actually quite like Skrillex even though most diehard dubstep-heads really hate him, lol. I do get annoyed when people listen to him and suddenly think they know everything about dubstep or even EDM in general and that he’s so underground.

If brostep is what I think it is then it sounds like brocore/mallcore/******core, aka a horrible manufactured music genre meant only to appeal to low-brow trashy individuals who shop at Hot Topic and think Bring Me The Horizon is the pinnacle of musical talent and skill. I never saw comments on Lamb of God videos going “omg randy is sooooooo hottttt” but you see no end of that stupidity on BMTH, Asking Alexandria etc videos.

Brostep is the stuff that tries to be like dubstep, but consists of unnecessary wobbles and no real variation in melody. You can easily identify a brostep song by going to youtube and finding which songs have comments describing how “filthy” it is.

Who cares what “real” dubstep is anyways? People make up ridiculous subgenres these days.

I kind of view “brostep” as kind of a good thing anyways. The thing is, dubstep used to be really underground, and not many people knew about it. Now, it’s getting a lot more popular. When genres get popular they do kind of mainstream out and get reduced to their basic, most recognizable parts - that would be the wobbles and such. But lots of people get into Skrillex or someone else you might call “brostep” and then through that they get into lots of other dubstep artists or other EDM.

Now even Britney Spears has dubstep-influenced songs, and I think that’s great, even though you might scoff, because some form of dubstep is making it to mainstream radio and getting more fans and introducing people into the EDM scene. Just because Skrillex or other “brostep” artists exist doesn’t mean you have to listen to them, and while some dubstep might get watered down and thinned out because it’s popular, it does get some people interested in it and into the really good artists.

Skrillex is honestly my favorite artist, though. He got me into EDM in general and he was my first concert so I have a lot of extremely positive associations with him. I like lots of other, “better” dubstep and house artists, but I really like his sound, even if it isn’t pure dubstep.

I don’t want certain genres to be more mainstream though. The more mainstream generally the less inventive and adventerous because they want to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

^True, but the good stuff will always continue to exist, and it just brings more people in and gets them into it…they’ll find the good stuff. No one forces you to listen to the mainstream stuff…there’s a lot of crappy dubstep out there, I’ll admit it, but I’m happy if someone hears it, likes it, and eventually gets into the dubstep that I like.
