Music

Try stuff from the British invasion.

Haha. I like Frou Frou, too. The soundtrack they made for...that movie...hooked me.

Stesla - Do you like Reel Big Fish? I've been listening to a few of their songs lately thanks to a ska-obsessed friend of mine. They're pretty cool.

Snoopy - I watched Dreamgirls. :] I enjoyed it. I've never watched high school musical...Worthy of condemnation? No idea, but it just didn't appeal to me.

Hemingwayisdead - That's so cool! You're actually the first person that I know that has heard of it before. Cool :] Who are your favorite directors?

MagicalSpork - I just went onto Imogen's website, and, youre right, she does have a nice voice. In some weird way, she reminds me of Kylie Minogue. (I butchered her name, but yeah...:P)

^^ Was it the "Garden State" soundtrack?

Btw, Imogen Heap = Frou Frou.

Frou Frou's the duo. Imogen does vocals.
She started out solo, then became the other half of the duo.

Anywayyyy, her voice definitely is amazing, lol.

REALLY? Wow. I didn't know that. >_< Makes sense, though.
And yeah, the Garden State soundtrack. :] Thanks! Haha. I couldn't stop thinking about that. I like the movie, too, but the soundtrack is better. :P

Coldplay, Maroon 5, red hot chili peppers i guess alternative rock

I seem to like the sound of skinny British/Amarican rock bands :) ....the kooks...razorlight.....coldplay....muse....THE STROKES-->musical prodigies....the killers
I kinda like the emo stuff, like death cab for cutie ......

Yes, the Garden State soundtrack is pretty amazing.

Eh, my music varies. Favorite band has got to be Muse though, hands down. Radiohead, Hellogoodbye (they make me smile so much), Sugarcult (okay, so a little bit emo isn't bad), Postal Service, and Death Cab for Cutie are also up there. As for classical, Gustav Mahler's my man. =]

Why'd you say Death Cab's emo? I'd consider them Indie, but they're not really anything like Dashboard Confessional (who I pretty much consider the epitome of emo).

Bunch of groups I've already liked or I'm starting to get into:

The Fray (I'm about ready to campaign for Far Away to become a single)
Shinedown
Evanescence
Blue October
All-American Rejects

And that's just a few.

my most favourite director is Carl Theodor Dreyer. His films are so powerful and chilling. My other faves are Leni Riefenstahl (deeply admire her cinematic intelligence, although can't say I'm a fan of her subject matter, of course), Michelangelo Antonioni, Charlie Chaplin, Frank Capra, Werner Herzog, Erich von Stroheim, Krystof Kieslowski...I could go on forever. I'm such a film geek at heart.

I think Frou Frou/Imogen did a couple of tracks on Lost in Translation...is that what you meant? I'm not sure, though.

But I looooove Imogen & Jem, too. Gorgeous voices.
If you like beautiful female voices, you might like The Cardigans (sort of indie pop with a dash of electronic, wonderful vocalist), Corinne Bailey Rae (bluesy, wonderful), The Ditty Bops (female duo, love them), Eisley (arguably a Christian group, but still excellent), Emiliana Torrini (I love to fall asleep to her, Icelandic, amazing voice!!), Goldfrapp (british trip-hop, voice really shines even in the more electro-pop inclined tracks), Gregory and the hawk (I'm minorly obsessed, I love the sound of that woman's voice!), Inara George (NOT just that track on the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack - her whole album is good!), Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins/Rilo Kiley (same voice, different bands, all good), Mirah, REGINA SPEKTOR (outstanding range, amazing lyricist, gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous), Tegan and Sara (twins! harmonize beautifully), Vienna Teng (a little stuffy, little sappy, but I love the song Anna Rose), The Weepies/Deb Talan (Deb's solo work is great, but I'll always love her work with Steve Tannen best)

PHEW.

Just a few of my favorite female vocalists. I could go on... :)

My usual fare is an assortment of indie-ish things (TV on the Radio, Camera Obscura, Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, the Dandy Warhols, Blonde Redhead, Modest Mouse, etc), but I really LOVE early music (medieval and Renaissance stuff, chant, that sort of stuff), spirituals (American shape-song, gospel, hymns), anything performed by Michaela Petri (my recorder-player of choice), soundtracks, cheesy 90s Europop and mid-90s mainstream rock, grunge-type things, raunchy rap, and SHOWTUNES!

Really, I'll listen to anything except for the psuedo-punk stuff like My Chemical Romance, hard metal, or country-pop.

Camera Obscura is one of my all-time favorites. I love you. And I've got this new obsession with Iron & Wine. I listened to 'Sodom, South Georgia' about 10 times in a row. love, love, love it.

i like lotsa music.

Mostly classical stuff...Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Ravel, Mahler, Bruckner, Shostakovich...

I'm on last.fm, too shoeshine! Mine's haywire lately though...scrobbling stuff I never listened to. Go figure.
The suggestions are usually pretty spot-on (except it keeps recommending David Bowie...)
http://www.last.fm/user/mollypockets/

I have a pretty diverse taste in music. I love folky stuff-- Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Sufjan Stevens, etc. Deerhoof is good. Xiu Xiu is great too. Hm...what else...Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones, Streetlight Manifesto...some wavey stuff like The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode. ELLIOTT SMITH! Can't believe I almost forgot him. Animal Collective, Alice in Videoland, PJ Harvey. Lots of showtunes (theatre kids represent!). Evanescence's music from waaay back in the 90s when it was just Ben and Amy and they sang mainly Christian stuff. Wolf Parade. I'm probably missing a lot.

I think Deerhoof is a bit odd...I like it (I think). But definitely odd. I think it would be a lot more pleasant if they toned down the shrill factor on the vocals just a touch.

And, not to be cliche, but 'Pale Blue Eyes' by VU is one of my all-time favorite songs.

haha yeah, deerhoof is pretty odd. especially if you check out their older stuff (the man, the king, the girl & dirt pirate creed lp especially) -- it's pretty much just random noise. their newer stuff is a bit poppier and easier to get into.

i like both sides of their spectrum, though.

xiu xiu is good as well.

edit. oh and i obviously like modest mouse. ;)

Ah, mollypockets, you're like my new favorite person ever. I adooore Camera Obscura, and I didn't know anyone else liked The Weepies... :] Eisley's a Christian group? Weird. Ah well, still adore them.

And Iron & Wine's absolutely amazing! There really are quite a few songs that I have to just listen to on repeat once in a while (most of the songs on our Endless Numbered Days have that effect, I think).

Heehee, Deerhoof's silly. They're kind of fun to listen to if you're in a particular mood and listening to them on headphones, but I absolutely can't listen to them out loud. Not sure why. Probably the shrillness.

Forgetmenots, I love you!! We should compare playlists or something :)

I didn't even know anyone else had heard of Eisley.

What about Devendra Banhart and/or Vetiver? Anyone? I love his voice.
