Music

I've gotten into a lot of Swedish indie lately. I really like Jens Lekman, I'm From Barcelona, Suburban Kids with Biblical Names, Jose Gonzalez, and The Cardigans.
I had no idea so much good music came out of Sweden :)

mollypockets: I love Devendra Banhart!

Hmm. I listen to a wide range of stuff. I listen to a lot of soul music, old school and contemporary. Lots of indie rock/pop, such as Neutral Milk Hotel, The Decemberists, Of Montreal. And a lot of classic rock, such as the Beatles and Pink Floyd. I also like jazz and instrumental music. And Nitin Sawhney, I'm not quite sure where he fits. I like hip hop music that has a good beat and emphasizes vocals over rapped lyrics. As of right now, I can't get Sean Paul's "Temperature" out of my head.

Anyone else have really prolonged obsessions with certain artists? I was obsessed with John Legend for 3-4 months -- he was the only thing I listened to in my car, on my iPod, etc. I'm waiting for my next obsession to sweep me off my feet :)

Ahh, Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal. :D Of Montreal's so much fun, haha. :] They make me so happy.

Mollypockets, my last.fm is http://www.last.fm/user/Diaphanous/, although it's been kind of weird to me lately...ah well. I tend to forget to turn it on, so I guess that's why it ends up oddly, haha.

Anybody listen to The Liars? They're fantastic.

Ugh, Nazi Oi.

Anyway, I'm not too good with the labelling of music, so I'll just link to my last.fm

yeah liars are pretty great. i like the new one a lot more than the other two, although they were quite good as well.

Volteface, I've had too many prolonged obsessions to count! A few years ago I had a big one with Streetlight Manifesto...I memorized most of their songs, listened to them over and over again, ran down hallways singing their stuff, used their lyrics on my various online profiles, etc.

Wow... well, I got 23(!) CDs for Christmas and I've got my first MP3 player coming in the mail........... so, 'twill be a future bright with music for me... :D

Sixteen of those 23 CDs were a box set of Baroque music, and another one was Joaquin Rodrigo. I listen to lots of classical... I've been working my way through the box set... it's good stuff. And Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez is one I listen to practically every day when I get home from school. Rodrigo, mug of tea and calculus homework... It's funny that I like the CD so much; the first time I ever listened to it was three and a half years ago, when I was really (really) sick in Mexico, getting an IV drip after passing out on the floor of a tiny medical clinic. (I guess I opened my mouth in the shower or something... that'll do it for ya in Mexico.) According to what I learned in psychology class, I should associate the bad experience with the music, but I really don't. I love that CD! :D

The rest of the CDs were the French pop singer Raphael and the Mexican pop singer Julieta Venegas. I also listen to Juanes (Colombian pop/rock), Shakira (Spanish language only, and not much of the new stuff from Fijacion Oral), Mana (Mexican rock), Carlos Vives (Colombian, more of a Caribbean/indigenous flavor)... and then some Ravel, Brahms, other classical music, Lhasa (Spanish language), John Hiatt, Beatles, Paul Simon, Gideon Freudmann.... even Lyle Lovett.

Music has great power to make me feel. It's cool. :)

Haha, Of Montreal IS fun! It all so spunky & odd. My sister absolutely can NOT stand it, and she always makes terrible sighs of unhappiness when I listen to it in the car.
My car, my rules. :)

Speaking of fun, I'm sitting at my computer making playlists instead of doing homework, and I just made one full of FUN music. The kind that's sort of silly & cute.
