'Kay. This is my first post.
I've been dying to know what is expected in college music auditions...the level of ability, etc. For voice.
Colleges I'm looking at now: Ithaca, U of Hartford, & Rowan U.
Help??

I like your username. But I have no clue, unfortunately. Uniqueness?? Now if you'd asked about DRAMA, I might have more to say...

From what my teacher has told me (i play tbone), they're looking to see whether or not you have the ability to complete their music program.

So like...not perfection, potential?
I looked up some voice recitals on youtube of students at Ithaca (my 1st choice) and I got a little worried...and I feel like I can't judge myself on whether I have the same level of ability.

Try posting on the Music Major's forum. They will be able to help you.

^^ just what I was going to say. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on that board.

Every school has different requirements. You really need to look on the websites of the schools that interest you.

Some schools require two selections (often one in English and one in a foreign language), others ask for 3, some may want even more.

If you can sing each piece from memory, with all the correct notes and rhythms, proper pronunciation, good intonation and some expression, you will not embarrass yourself. While some schools are looking for a particular level of vocal accomplishment, many are interested in your potential.

Thanks! I'm already into my repertoire for the auditions...I'm at least secure about most of what I'm singing. Anyone know about the selectivity of the three schools I listed in the first post? btw, I'm thinking about adding Bucknell to my list :/..to see where that gets me. Thanks for the reference to the music forum too!
