Is an audition required for entrance into their music program?

Hmmm. Fordham has a band and orchestra, but its not a music conservatory or School of Music. You are not required to be a music major to play, though there is a simple audition to play in the orchestra. There are also other musical opportunities tied to the Fordham Chorus and the Theatre on campus, as well as the Bronx Ensemble.

Fordham has some strong faculty in the Dept. of Music and one of the toughest out there for grading etc.

But Music is not Fordham's strength either. That is typical of Jesuit schools.

If you want to major or minor in Music that is fine, but I would add another major...to double major to strengthen your resume.

Yeah I would definitely double major if i decided to gp there. I just haven't seen anything on auditioning for the major.

Thanks!

You are welcome. I also don't know if Lincoln Center campus is different than Rose Hill. If you are going to Lincoln Center, then inquire there by email with the Department head. They are good about responding usually.

Normally, to "audition for a major in music" is more about scholarship money for Music Majors and that is almost always at major music schools...a Conservatory or a School of Music, such as Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt or Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins.

Schools that have music departments and not a School of Music per se, usually dont have audition requirements, except perhaps for chair placement in the orchestra.

As you know, auditions can be funky and quirky. I have seen it a thousand times.

Good luck and I hope you attend Fordham. Its a great school and lots of fun.
