So recently I was accepted into my region’s chamber orchestra, which also granted me entrance into my school’s chamber orchestra (honors credits) and eligibility to audition for the NJ All-State Orchestra. However there is a scheduling conflict between Chamber orchestra and AP Computer Science. If I don’t do orchestra, I cannot audition for any region or all-state orchestra next year, and also can’t attend this years all-state if I make it. Should I sacrifice this to do just another AP course, or should I just pursue music?
I am a Freshman going to Sophmore next year
Why do you want to take APCS? Are you interested in pursuing a career in computer science or one in a STEM field?
If you’re just taking it to “have another AP”, that’s not a legitimate reason and you should definitely do chamber orchestra instead.
It sounds like you enjoy music. Don’t give it up for some random AP class.
I’ve heard this question before.
Music
or do what makes you happy
My kid chose unweighted orchestra over a weighted foreign language when faced with a similar scheduling issue. You can do computer stuff (and foreign language) on your own outside of school, and take the school class later.
Orchestra. Orchestra. Orchestra.
Are you a Freshman or a Senior or are two different people using the same account?
Depends on what you want to pursue for your career. I’d choose orchestra unless that AP class is what you genuinely want to do in life.
Do orchestra…you have plenty of time for AP CS
I agree with everyone above. Take Orchestra, especially since you seem good at it. Colleges will care more about you pursuing a passion and trying to excel with it rather than just adding another AP to the list.
