Musical coaching chairs: Dartmouth rehires Teevens who was fired by Stanford

A Dartmouth grad, Teevens was originally hired as football coach at his alma mater by then-athletic director Ted Leland. Years later, Leland - now athletic director at Stanford - hired old friend Teevens to coach the Cardinal.

Then, in November, after experiencing 3 losing seasons in Palo Alto, Leland, under pressure from alumni, fired Teevens prior to the expiration of his 5 year contract.

Now Teevens has popped up again at Dartmouth, replacing a coach who himself was fired after Dartmouth finished 1-9, its worst season ever.

Dartmouth had to move quickly to fill the vacancy after a flap arose following the leaking of a private letter from the Dartmouth admissions director in which he praised Swarthmore for dropping football, and bemoaned the need to recruit underqualified athletes at Dartmouth.
