Musical Theater Prescreens - Class of 2022 (process/response)

Hello, I haven’t seen a specific feed on the prescreen for MT Class of 2020. My S has completed 11 prescreen applications to MT programs. Anyone have any idea how long until the schools send out notices? Either rejected or accepted for audition? Trying to make plans for traveling to the schools and/or Unified. This process is soooo expensive!

We had quite the range hearing back from D’s 8 prescreens- from within a few days to as long as 8 weeks after submitting. And yes it is SO expensive!

I heard about there is something called Moonifieds? Since we have not used a coach I didn’t hear about it. Any response already from those prescreens? I see there is one in Dallas in Nov, is it worth it? I’d love to hear about peoples responses. Thanks

Moonifieds are only available for Mary Anna Dennard’s students. If you do a search for “Moonifieds,” you will see quite a bit of discussion. We’ve had friends go through Moonifieds - some felt it was really worth it and others - not so much.

Just heard back from Mary Anna – all full so not an option. Back to Plan A - Unifieds and on-campus (once we pass prescreens.) =D>

Just curious how everyone’s prescreens are coming along, and if people are hearing back responses yet? Chime in if you can…trying to reduce the stress of the waiting game. We have only heard back from Baldwin Wallace (yes) for an audition, but it wasn’t a prescreen.

It’s pretty early, so I would not worry, at all. I think that last year my D had everything in by 10/15: She heard from some prescreen schools within days; and some others took waaaay longer Honestly, some schools may simply not be viewing prescreens yet: They may begin, say, 10/1. BREAK LEGS!

We heard back from two schools within three days. I think the earlier you get them in, the quicker they can view them since they’re not being bombarded with them yet.

Agree with @type1mom. We set a deadline of 10/15 to have prescreens uploaded; and some schools won’t start reviewing until 10/1. In the past, we heard from prescreens within two weeks (on the outside). Usually, within a week.

I know of some who have already heard back but they may not want to post here. Some schools, like Carnegie Mellon are watching early and have sent results. Also Elon and University of Michigan and Syracuse are earlier than others. I think it just depends on the school and what their deadlines are

(Edited) Moved to “the journey” thread:
Does anyone know if Cap 21/Molloy is traditionally at Chicago Unifieds? No 2017/2018 audition dates posted yet; and trying to formulate a plan…

I am also wondering if Cap21 will be at LA Unified? If they have walk-ins? Anyone know about walk-in’s in general at LA Unified? We will be there and would like to see about a few schools my son hasn’t applied to yet. Also, prescreens acceptances are coming in slowly…hopefully some of you have received some good news.

@MTmomSF Yes, Molloy/Cap 21 was also in Los Angeles and also taking walk-ins. And many, many schools in LA had walk-in availability - more so than Chicago which we also attended. Although LA is only over two days (which is actually misleading because many schools start on Friday and a few are still doing auditions on Monday) the overall number of students in attendance is much lower than Chicago so there were walk-in opportunities galore there.

Thanks @sopranomtmom we will plan to drive down Thursday to be there for Friday. Are the walk-in’s posted in the lobby of the main hotel or are they located elsewhere? I hear some schools do auditions at other locations on the weekend.

You will find in the common areas on the floors where auditions are being held lots of signage and in particular flyers from the schools holding auditions in suites as opposed to ballrooms. Most of those will indicate there might be walk-in availability, but the only way to really know is to actually walk around to each of the schools and check at the registration desk in front to see if they have a walk-in sign up sheet. And yes, to your second question there are auditions going on at several other hotels around the Westin that weekend. My daughter auditioned for Carnegie Mellon at the Crowne Plaza and for Manhattan School of Music at the Hilton. I also know there were a number of Acting auditions going on at the Sheraton as well. So be sure to do your research on who is where in advance.

@MTmomSF the schools that are officially part of the unified auditions will be more visible. Schools that just plan to be at the same hotel and hold their auditions will generally be a little more off the main hallways and you have to search a little more for them. At least that was our experience in LA.

Thanks @waitingforlife and @sopranomtmom your info is very helpful to us first timers. (first and last in my case.)

I know I’m putting the cart before the horse as prescreens haven’t been submitted yet but does anyone happen to know what Carnegie Mellon’s on campus audition dates are for 2018? I can’t seem to find it online anywhere.

@PaMTmom CM audition dates are shared once you get accepted to audition.

And it looks like you schedule your audition yourself (after prescreen approval) on acceptd online
