Are there less kids applying for Musical Theater programs this year? Or is there less talent in the class of 2013?

Or less kids interested in it on CC.

They’re all hanging out in the Musical Theater Major forum.

Fewer kids, not less kids.

We’re all thinking it; someone has to say it.

I thought about it. I wanted to stay true to the original, though. :p

Alright grammar police! Can you direct any valid substance to an answer. My D tells me that talent pool changes every year… One year strong singers, another strong actors, another year strong dancers. Auditions at her school this year seemed not to be strong in dance, and overall the freshman class is smaller … I guess this is not a question for Incoming freshman parents, because you need some knowledge of the previous years audition process at your school.

Would this question be better addressed in the Musical Theater forum?

Here’s the link if you need it - [Musical Theater Major - College Confidential](Musical Theater Major - College Confidential Forums)

As others have mentioned, the MT Forum on CC is the place where people are more up on this subject. Then again, I think you have already posted on that forum before.

However, the numbers of students applying for MT degree programs seems to be on the rise each year. There are also newer programs emerging each year.

I do not think you can classify thousands of kids in a particular application year as stronger in acting, or dance, etc. There are strong kids in one certain area each year and triple threats applying every year too. It is highly competitive all the way around.

Also, conclusions about MT applicants and programs cannot be drawn based on the class size and make up of the students at your D’s program. Perhaps they wanted a smaller size freshman class. Perhaps their yield was down. Other programs had extremely low acceptance rates and many had long wait lists. Perhaps your D’s program was looking for a certain type of applicant or else certain types were drawn to that specific program.
