My D is looking for a school that will allow her to double major in Math and Musical Theatre. Any suggestions?

Double majors have been addressed a lot. Try doing a forum search under ‘double’ or ‘major’. It is most likely that your student should look for BA rather than BFA programs, as to double major in a BFA program would take an additional year. Fro example, in her current BFA program, my daughter is taking 12 classes per semester, without a double major!

While this may be true in some BFA programs, it is not the case in all. As I mentioned to PaiMom in the parent cafe forum, she should look into NYU and Michigan, both schools where kids are able to pursue a double major, and I know kids who have done so at both schools in four years, including my D. :)

Muhlenberg allows for double majors, although their degree is not in MT but Theatre, you can minor in music and dance to get the training

I had to laugh at the title of this forum. My D couldn’t wait to get in a BFA program where she didn’t have to take a math class again! While my youngest loves math! ;)

There is a young man in my daughters year at Umich that is double majoring in engineering and getting his BFA in Musical Theatre. It is tough but possible. Not sure if it taking him five years to achieve the double major.

My daughter feels the same as your older daughter Lulu63! Best wishes PaiMom3!

I know that many students at Ball State major with BA Theatre Studies (there is no BA Musical Theatre) and something else. Math definitely works with that!

Northwestern

agree with NYU - when we did campus tour, our guide was a MT/Math double major in addition to being a tour guide and an RA. All that didn’t seem to phase him…

Also may want to look at Ohio Northern - they have strong academics and are very flexible about double majoring. They are very well endowed so they have great scholarships.

At James Madison this is possible… double majors are doable… tough, but for the motivated student not impossible.

At NYU you can double major with any subject in Arts & Sciences (CAS) and still graduate within 4 years. You would just use your electives toward the 2nd major.
Just checked and “Mathematics” is a major or minor in CAS, so that would be very doable.
