Hi friends! I have my first audition Monday the 16th for Pace’s MT program. A few things:
- I’m having trouble choosing between my ballads. On one hand, I have “Somebody Somewhere” from The Most Happy Fella which is a very beautiful legit song that greatly shows off my soprano range. On the other hand, I have “With You” from Ghost. Now, I’m not sure how overdone this piece is but I very much enjoy the third verse and really feel that it shows off my belt. I am extremely passionate about both of these songs and feel that they showcase completely different aspects of my voice, so it’s really hard to pick. I am a strong belter/mixer as well as a classically trained soprano. If it helps, my up-tempo is “In Short” from Edges which is the complete opposite of “With You” in theme but also different from “Somebody Somewhere” in range as it is another belt piece. What would you advise me to do?
- I’ve heard some crazy things about Pace’s dance call, apparently it’s very challenging. I am generally a good mover but have not had too much dance experience. I have been tapping for only a few months but I absolutely love it. Since I have a musical ear, it’s easy for me to hear the rhythmic dictation. Would you suggest I try the tap portion of the audition, or should I stay away from it since I am still an intermediate level tapper and probably not as advances as the others?
- Something else I heard about the Pace audition is the fact that they call back a very select group of people that day. I doubt I will be one of those lucky few (I can only hope), but I just want to prepare myself. What do callbacks consist of? If you don’t get a callback does that automatically mean you’re out, or do those results vary?
- (last thing I promise) Around how many students does Pace invite for a live audition compared to the number of those who submit pre-screens? Do they simply rule out those who are just plain bad, or are they especially selective during that process?
If you read until the end, thank you so much. I hope I can have some good advice before my audition. I’ll take any information I can get. Thank you so much!!!
