Musical Theatre Schools Outside of the US

What schools are good for MT not in the US? I know there are some good ones in the UK but don’t know which. Also does anyone know anything about the Institute of Arts Barcelona? Intriguing but hard to find much info on it. Thanks!

Isn’t it such a quintessentially American art form though?

hey! so to comment on both posts in this thread, I’m always an advocate for a non-US degree in the arts as I think its great experience. In the UK you have LIPA, Royal Conservaatoire of Scotland, Rpyal Welsh conservatory, and quite a few others.

I speak German, so I applied for the Austrian School of Music and Drama, Hamburg MT, and a couple others.

as for ArtsyKidDad’s comment, studying outside of the US can be so amazing for theater. Its not an exclusively and largely american art form, as many other countries have extreme grand musicals of their own that the US will probably never see (Austria/Germany has Elisabeth, Tanz Der Vampire, Rudolf Affaire Mayerling, and france has Starmania and Roméo et Juliette among many others, let alone countries like Hungary and Italy which have tons as well although I’m not as familiar) so getting training outside of the US is totally understandable

Correct. This is why most American schools for acting have semesters abroad say in London for acting/Shakespeare but if you go to an MT School you will not be offered a semester abroad due to the less offerings of MT dance.

We have a friend at IAB and it looks like a solid program. Check out their Instagram. Plus I see all their social, their apts on the beach, side trips to other neighboring countries. They seem to have very solid dance instruction and well rounded curriculum. I know another who committed there last year and sounds like it’s working well.
