musician, but not serious

Hi - My D plays the harp, and is looking for a small, liberal arts school where she can continue with the instrument, but not as a music major. We visited St Olaf and loved it, and it is obviously a wonderful choice for a musician. I was wondering, though, if it is a good choice for someone who is not a dedicated, highly skilled musician. Given all the musical talent on campus, would just an average Joe (or Josephine), musically speaking, feel a little intimidated by all the talent on campus?

St. Olaf is a very inclusive community, and the majority of students are involved with music in some fashion and most aren't majoring in music. Your daughter would have lots of opportunities to play and would be welcomed whatever her playing level.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I love St Olaf, and hope my D decides that it is her first choice. However, I live in the Twin Cities, and St Olaf is a bit too close to home for her taste right now. We'll see!

It's far enough away that she wouldn't come home every weekend but close enough that she could come home some weekend if something were happening at home that she didn't want to miss. It may be the best of both worlds for her!
