i play a Fender Stratocaster and an Ibanez acoustic with a Fender Champ amp

(the strat is mexican, but that's still better than a squire. at least it's a real Fender)

My violin is kinda mysterious. It's at least 150 years old and it's either English or French made but the tag on the inside was probably stolen and put in a crappier violin, so now it's tagless :( but I do love it.
My brother's old half size violin (haha tiny!) was made by the official violinmaker for the French court(I can't recall the name) which I think is really interesting.
My sister's violin is a Roth made in 1927. We also have a size L Steinway.

I love looking at the imperfections and blemishes on old instruments that have been caused by time and wondering how they got there.

elvenqueen, I have heard that Patricola's are nice and I compliment you from going away from the Loree norm.

I currently play 4 woodwinds: Oboe, English Horn, Alto Sax and Tenor Sax. My Oboe is a Loree (non-AK bore), my English Horn is a new Fossati, my Alto Sax is a Selmer Mark VI (1969, 180,000 serial) and my Tenor is a Yanigasawa (looking to upgrade it).

This was an excellent thread idea by the way. Music is quite possibly the best aspect of life.

I play le French horn, a conn8D to be precise, suuuuper nice. I also play mellophone in marching band. Wonderful instruments.

Fender Fatstrat (Mexican) electric guitar and a cheap Hohner acoustic guitar that I've grown to love.

I've been playing the piano for, I think, eight years now. Funny how I can remember the day of the week I had my first lesson (Wednesday), but I can't remember the year.

Anyway, I started out on keyboard 'cause we couldn't afford a piano. Well, at home, I practiced on the keyboard, but I had my lessons at my babsitter's house (her daughter had a piano and the same piano teacher).

A year or so later, I got my own secondhand. It's a factory brand, I think. I can't even spell it. Anyway, it was decent when I first got it. The tone is very bright, so it's not a terribly good piano for more solemn pieces.

I've been wanting a new piano for YEARS, though. My dad said I could get one when I passed the British 8th grade exam, which I did, but I didn't get a piano. I am in love with Steinway & Sons. Best brand ever. I got to play on an S&S concert piano when I was trying for my piano diploma (unfortunately, I didn't pass).

My parents have friends who bought their daughter a Steinway grand. I am so jealous. ;-;

I used to play the flute, too, but I never had private lessons (since there was always band). I quit after freshman year because I sucked, and I didn't like it that much anyway. If I could play another instrument, I'd definitely choose the violin. Been wanting to play it since 5th grade.

I play trumpet and clarinet.
My Trumpet is a Yamaha YTR-4335GS with a custom mouthpiece that has a cup almost equivalent to a Bach 3C. I want to upgrade to a Bach Strad or Schilke in college.
My Clarinet is a piece of crap, but that's okay because I use it for marching.

Oh were we supposed to name the brands, anyway, here they are.

Pianos: Old bar piano, really good sound, made in the 1800s by I don't know who.
Roland 170 Keyboard.

Guitars: Yamaha CG170 classical guitar, Guild D50 Acoustic, National Steel Guitar, Les Paul Standard electric, Rickenbacker Electric.

Yeah, I'm definitely a music kinda guy.

trumpet /.................

I play the Flute - although i couldnt tell you the make of it because i havent looked closely at it since i got it 5 years ago. Plus i only continue to play it because i love band and am a self proclaimed band geek/bq! Band Geeks Rule!!!!!

Flute- 9 years, still going. I had lessons and played in school band, orchestra, jazz ensembles (and no other black male I no plays the flute, funny, huh?)

Sax- 1 whole year. Then my sax broke. And I was too cheap to fix it. Now I forgot everything I learned. DAMN!

Piano- nearly 2 years, I taught myself.

Drums- Planning on learning the drums in fall '06, when I get the **** outta here (my parents' house; they won't take all the noise that comes with a drum set)

I play cello ^_^
I <3 cello.
Mine was made in like 1976?? somewhere around there. It sounds great.

I play violin! I just started taking lessons this summer. I have a full size, brand new. It was made by a well known violin maker in the Philadelphia area. Thats all I know, hehe.

Percussion with a specialty in marimba and marching snare (odd combo).

2 time soon to be 3 in a couple months if I start practicing All-State band member

piano since third grade and i've been singing since fifth grade

Quote
"With drums you'd typically prefer NEW drums, as they do not get better with time; in fact, a $4,000 drum set from 2005 would absolutely DESTROY a $4,000 drum set from say, 1932, or 1967, or 1983 or even 1998."

Depends, drums have gone up wayyy in price over the last couple years. I have a premier cabria custon (laquer...non wrapped shells) that probably cost about 800 5-6 years ago. Now the sets gone crummy and costs way more. You can't buy what I have for 800 anymore. Also, there is the cymbal exception. Cymbals do get better over time, and the current price gouging on them in ridiculous!! I have a full set of Sabian HH's (ride, 2 crashes, china, spash and hi-hats) that cost me about the same as the ride alone would cost today!

i don't play any instruments. too poor for that. anyways...

did i miss something or are there no trombonists?!
btw i play trombone. (Bach 42 open wrap) ha.

clarinet for 7 years, alto sax for one.

I play Trombone also (Bach 36B Open Wrap)
