Must know about Bryn Mawr?

Hi everyone!

I am admitted by Bryn Mawr college and feel really excited. I at first really love this school and think maybe this should be my final choice. While lately it turns out actually few people have heard about Bryn Mawr and evaluations towards Bryn Mawr could vary greatly. Plus the ranking for BMC is not really high. All these things make me started to doubt my former decision. What if I want to get a job after graduation without graduate school? Will Bryn Mawr packed me the ability of entering the society and find the job I want and love? Besides I am also admitted to NYU Core Program, which also suffers from lots of discussions and questions. Things become really tough for me. So I figure that maybe I should learn deeper about both schools. Starts from Bryn Mawr, any one with any info will be welcomed!

Don’t worry! BMC is a highly regarded school – most people haven’t heard of Williams or Middlebury either, so don’t worry about what other people may have heard of. BMC’s ranking isn’t that high because it gets applications from students who really are interested in attending a women’s college, rather than just apply across the board to the top 20 privates or LACs – so its admission rate is higher than similar coed schools. Don’t worry. BMC’s academics are superb, the opportunity to take class at Hford makes it a great environment. You will have a fabulous experience. My BMC alum peers are doing fabulous work in interesting careers, and have the analytic skills to move across careers when they need to or want to.

I would choose Bryn Mawr over NYU. It has an excellent reputation.

Bryn Mawr is a great school! Don’t listen to the “barbecue prestige” factor of friends, families or acquaintances who don’t understand colleges or haven’t been through the process in a long time. NYU isn’t that much better–go where you like/what is affordable for you!

Another vote for Bryn Mawr over NYU. Those people that know academic quality KNOW Bryn Mawr.

Bryn Mawr certainly has an excellent reputation in the northeast.

Don’t worry about whether random people have heard of it. It won’t get in your way in the long run.

Not the place to go if you have a big concern with how to impress people with rankings from a magazine. If you want to live and study and learn within a community of brilliant women, that’s another matter.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the replying! Another question, what about comparing to Smith College? What’s great and not-so-good with both schools?
