Must-know-info for transferring out of state...

My major is a special sect. of engineering and I currently looking at CSM, TAMU, UAF, Texas Tech, and USC (The only college in my state offering petroleum engineering). Is there anything I should ask the counseling departments at those schools on top of seeing what classes transfer from my community college? I am sure math/ science classes transfer very well but am confused as to what General Ed to take that encompass all those school's specific general ed plans. How much do admissions weigh the completion of general ed to the core requirements, science/math/engineering? Thanks in advance.

A guy in my engineering physics class had his master’s degree in engineering from Illinois. But when he moved here to Texas, he was forced to retake almost every gen ed class because the state of Texas requires college English, history, and government to be taught at their required standards. Just a warning about transferring to Texas tech from out of state, you might have to retake every non science class.

If you’re looking for petroleum engineering, University of Texas - Permian Basin might be a good school to look at. It’s much cheaper than Tech and it’s a small school.

If you’re looking into petroleum engineering, you should consider University of Oklahoma. I transferred into its geology program, and the school recognized almost every class I took (only need to take two more gen eds that are fairly common across schools). Pet E recruiting is outstanding here, and the school is considerably cheaper than CSM, TAMU, Texas Tech, or USC.
