The requirements for an econ major a fairly loose. Only econ401,402 and a stats class are required and then it's just some electives. What are some classes that I should definitely take for the econ major? Assuming I don't want to go to grad school but want to keep my career options open. Are econometrics and game theory very important to take? The reason I ask is because some of these classes seem like they're 10x harder and perhaps 10x more important/useful than others.

Econometrics and Game Theory are definitely a couple of the better/more useful electives to take, but are also certainly on the harder end. I wouldn’t say they’re “very important” to take, particularly if you don’t plan on going to grad school, but taking them would absolutely be more worthwhile than some of the other BS electives. Haven’t personally taken it, but International Finance seems cool/interesting. I would recommend Monetary and Financial Theory to knock out your ULWR (unless you want to take a legit writing-focused class like English 325).

After 401 & 402, most Econ majors just get away with coasting (i.e. taking the easy stats course, Econ 404, taking easy electives, the 300s and the joke 400s, not to mention never taking math beyond Calc I). If you can handle it (the classes I recommended above aren’t that difficult), I highly recommend taking the more useful/difficult courses as it will just be more fulfilling/worthwhile.
