Mutiple People Applying from the same HS to same Top Tier University...

What is a region defined as anyway? The state locale or is it broken up further within the state?

Uh.. In my class of 90 people, the two female ISEF winners both went to the International Physics Olympiad, the RSI participant went to the International Chemistry Olympiad, and there's a few other Olympiad Medallists too (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) And they're almost all applying to MIT and the like.

Sweet jesus!!!!

But how many of them are great individuals? You know, people who have lives and are well-liked and stuff?

^I don't think adcoms admit students who seem "nice"...I think they still go for the academic accomplishments...and on top of that if you're nice...:)

hey guys ill give you a scenario and i wanna see who you guys would accept at this top tier university (private)

Student A- 3.95 GPA, 2200 SAT, fairly okay challenging courses, barely active in any EC's at school, top 2% of class, gaming nerd.
Student B- 3.9 GPA , low 1900 SAT score, barely any challenging courses, cheerleader, not much ec's that are passionate, TOP 3%. has had a tour/info session
Student C- 3.85 GPA, 33 ACT with 11 on Writing, Lots of challenging courses, has passionate EC's for medicine, has had an interview (wanted to apply ED but due to financial reasons couldn't; interviewer took note), info session, campus visit, top 4%, lots of leadership positions in big EC activities (internships, research, etc.)

Who would you accept?

Wow, that "scenario" was totally unbiased, and it wasn't completely obvious who each person was either!

That scenario was totally biased...give us more accurate info on the other two and then we can make a guess.

Student A is took pretty challenging courses last year- Calc BC and English Lang, Student B tooks English Lang. Uh Student A is doing ED possibly major in Computer Science and Student B BioMedE.

^what college?

Northwestern University

i would take student C... but then again i don't really know if a gpa3.85 is competitive ina particular sch ><

eh i think if most of the applicants from a particular sch are qualified, there'll be an implicit quota on how many ppl the college will take. but of course the admission officers would like you to believe otherwise...

tetrisfan: schs in spore are incredibly competitive. in my sch, the 3 students who got gold in international chem, physics and bio olympiad couldn't top their respective subjects in sch exams. they are nice and quite well liked ppl too :D

my school only sends like 2-3 kids to ivies per year.... you guys go to some crazy schools

we sent 3 to ivies last year. 2 were to harvard though. Those two got into pretty much every school they applied so I don't think that being from the same school played a hindering factor.
