My acceptence was a mistake, help?:(

Was the offer of admission ever officially taken back?

While unfortunate, and often-times heartbreaking as in Write’s case, mistakes happen and it’s a rare instance you can sue successfully. Google the name Mark Edmonson UNC, this was a student who slacked off his senior year and his admission was rescinded after he paid tuition, after he went to orientation, after he had his student ID card. If every student who received an “oops we made a mistake” letter were able to sue a university, no one would be able to afford tuition.
@Sunny.

I am going to UNF.
The thing about USF that I did not understand was that most of my friends who applied were deferred. One girl who is in the top 10% of our class, was deferred. With like a 4.6 GPA and in National Honor Society. I also got deferred. All of us got deferred while one kid in my grade got accepted. He has way lower stats and scores than all of us.

I go to a school very close to USF. Everyone applies as a safety, nearly no one gets deferred. Maybe 5-10%.

It is at my school…

And the average SAT scores at USF, and especially some of the other publics are very low. A 550 across the board will get you in easily. These schools are still very good safety schools…if you can’t use USF as a safety then what can you use? lol

I believe that USF is practicing “yield protection,” something that UF does all the time. They know that a student with high stats like that will, most likely, go to a higher ranked school. UF turns away kids with perfect SAT scores because they believe they will go to an Ivy. It happened to someone I know a few years ago. He got into Stanford but not UF!

Last year USF had 29,194 freshmen applicants and admitted 11,107 of them–38% admitted. Last year UCF had 33,968 freshmen applicants and admitted 15,303 of them–45% admitted. Most freshmen applicants to both USF and UCF are rejected.

USF doesn’t practice “yield protection.” USF doesn’t reject applicants because the applicants are too smart; that’d be dumb!

It isn’t dumb. It is actually very smart and they employ this practice as a means of maximizing their yield.

You can bet that the folks at UCF and USF are waiting on February 10, 2012. After this day many newly-notified UF admits will advise both of these schools that they will not be attending after all. At that point, they will admit their next level of applicants.

Let’s not confuse the issue here. It’s a gimme that many applicants admitted by USF will eventually elect to enroll at other colleges; but I seriously doubt USF is rejecting top applicants, or stacking them up on deferred lists and wait lists because USF figures they will probably attend other schools. The best qualified freshmen applicants are admitted to USF right away with USF’s rolling admission practice–not rejected, deferred or waitlisted in a wholesale manner by USF. Where many of the admitted eventually enroll is another matter.

122 students accidentally thought they were accepted.
76 of which ended up being denied.

The difference with these stories of mistaken acceptances and Write is that months went by and not only a few hours. That is a vast difference. She lost all of that time to apply to other schools and missed many deadlines to get apps, test scores and letters of rec in.

There is an elite BS in Beijing, but it is a school that is created by a Beijing University… A few thousand people compete for the 50 something spots throught tests and interview rounds… super elite I assure you XD And if you have some political influence, you can pull some strings behind the scene and get an acceptance for your kid who was outsmarted by approx half of the candidates.

I hink therein lies the problem with Chinese education: too often it is for profit, and so pulling some strings will get anyone accepted regardless. So schools that start elite might not - probably won’t - stay that way.

OMG what was I thinkin wrong thread SORRY!!!

And write, please share with us your results once you hear back! Best of luck!

^lol …

well not sure if you heard but Vassar admitted 75 people by mistake for ED 2 and they sent them emails apologizing and taking back their acceptances.

WRITE- Have you heard anything? I am praying for you!

Update: Thank you SO much, everyone, for being so helpful during this time. It was a hectic experience, but one I’ll always remember, and laugh about. I will make sure they NEVER regret accepting us.
BOTH my brother and I got in, for summer!:)

I’m glad UCF made up for their mistake. Welcome!

THANK GOD!!! I was rooting for you ;)

Congrats x1000 to the both of you :)
