My ACT score... should I retake?

Hello, I'm a senior in high school, and I got a composite score of 30 on the ACT.. however, my written essay scored a 6. I'm not really sure how this happened, but I guess my writing skills aren't what I thought they were. (Even I didn't think they were that bad.)

Anyway, my biggest question is.. how will this effect any scholarships I might have been eligible for if, say, I hadn't taken the written test at all? I know I still meet the benchmarks, but that isn't what I'm worried about... I'm worried about financial aid.

Is it worth it for me to take the entire test over again just to get a better writing score?

Question is somewhat unanswerable because it really depends on what scholarships you are talking about. Nevertheless if you are looking at colleges that give out merit aid based on test score, they usually use the composite score for determining it rather than any subscore such as writing.

Generally, schools do not care about the writing section because it is biased, but they do want at least a 7-8+. I would consider retaking again because anything 6 or lower will set some alarms on your writing style… Up to you though.
