Today as I was taking my ACT test, my administrator said she "saw me go back to other sections". I think what actually happened was she saw me flipping back pages to check or when she called 5 minutes, I would bubble really fast to guess. I have honestly never cheated a day in my life, so I'm really disappointed. And they dismissed me/voided my test. I am trying to get granted a re-take, bc my administrator was also very rude to me when I tried to talk to her afterwards, and I'm just really worried, bc I am very obsessed with my college career. Will that affect me at all? Please just give me some advice on what I should do. Please pray for me if you believe that God can forgive me if I did something wrong and that I can have favor. Thank y'all. <3
I am just a junior, so I was being an overachiever and taking it early so I can get my feet in the water kind of and be prepared for the real thing. I was just going to use my results to see if I needed to take the test 2 or 3 times... but now, unless I get a retake soon, I won't even know... I guess the bright side is I have almost a whole year.. I'm just very upset bc I honestly didn't cheat. Thank you again.

Umm…wait so the administrator took your test when she said 5 minutes?

No, no no. I was finished. And then she called me back and said I was voided bc she “knew I went back”. Which I didn’t. Like if I cheated, I would say (I mean seriously, it’s the internet, who cares?!) So is that going to be sent to my colleges when I take the test for real? And how do I get the lady to believe me?

Well, the rules says you cant flip through pages of other sections. I dont know if you didnt or not, but this is what I think. If you REALLY didn’t CHEAT, than you would have appealed for your test to be graded and scored. If that happened to me, if I was “caught,” I would probably even brake down in tears and say that I DID NOT CHEAT, Ive studied so hard for that test. You should ask the proctor what she SAW you did that she considered cheating. If she says that she saw you flipping back say that maybe you saw me going back while I grabbed the page of another section. IDk, but the thing is that COLLEGES will know if your test was voided.

Colleges will not know your test was voided.

Just put this behind you and sign up to take it the next time. It is available 5 time a year so you have lots more opportunities. Make sure you follow the rules and don’t do anything that even appears wrong.

Thank you both of you for posting, I’m so grateful. But I’m a little torn. One says they will know and one says they will not… And imagine… I almost did break down… I was SO shocked. I couldn’t believe it, bc at my school I’m KNOWN for not cheating- on anything. And even the proctor told the whole class that she saw me, and made me look like a fool and hypocrite. So I was on the verge of tears, and actually did driving home. Since i’m a junior, it’s not really a big deal to me - UNLESS colleges will see it. I’ve prided myself on being a straight A student my whole highschool career (thank God) and I really don’t want colleges to see that. And I also did not flip back to a previous section. this is what I think the proctor mistook as me cheating: okay, so we were in the reading section and we had 75?s in 45mins… I lost time and had about 1/2 done by the time she called 5mins. She walked around and saw me then, (I had only about a little over 30 done) and when she called it out, I quickly flipped through the book and guessed for the rest… but then * I went back (just to the beginning of that section) and checked some of my answers I didn’t have time to when I finished guessing through the rest of the 5mins. So then when she walked by later into the 2 or 3 section, I think she may have thought I cheated… but she didn’t really catch me. she just assumed. So please someone give me a straight answer. Thank you. :)

I think you mean the English section. The reading section only has 35 min. And colleges WILL NOT know unless you tell them. That is a pretty lame thing for her to do. If she has no proof, she can’t say that you were cheating.

Hey,

From what I’ve been reading, ACT and SAT scores are
to remain confidential even if you are accused of cheating.

You are charged with “Going back to an old section”
and I believe you. These kiddos were like
high-profile cheating and they got off:

[SAT, ACT cheats face no penalty - Los Angeles Times](SAT, ACT cheats face no penalty)

Does anyone happen to know what a “Red-flag” is?

What happened in the end??

I know somebody who copied the entire ACT off the person next to her. She got a 28. Got a 1400 total on the SAT when not cheating. Now she’s recruited by Duke, Penn, and Northwestern. Fair.

Someone with an ACT 28 is not likely going to get into Duke, Penn, or Northwestern.

Well if you only answered 30 questions on the english section you probably wouldn’t have liked your scores anyways.

CSource, how did you cheat? lol
And that sucks. I know the feeling . I got called out of a standardized writing test for basically the same thing. Luckily, I got off. I felt so good about what I wrote too, and ended up getting the highest score possible. Thank God it wasn’t invalidated. But yeah I was thinking that same thing as Linger, if you answered so little questions you prob. wouldn’t have liked the results anyway. But you also would at least get some perspective on your scores so I get .
Bummer.

Pretty much what everyone else said, it’s completely confidential. It really sucks that this happened to you, every proctor I’ve had has been extremely nice, I don’t know why everyone else seems to get extremely up-tight and crazy proctors!

this same exact thing happened to me today on the SAT…like 10 hours ago…the proctor said that she caught me cheating (changing other section answers) twice

first off, she only caught me once - and i was not cheating since even though my answer booklet was on the wrong page (for literally 10 seconds because i was opening it up to turn to the next section), the actual test booklet was turned to the right section

the first time she “caught” me - was during the sixth section, immediately afterwards we had a break during which she checked out my answer booklet for the FIRST TIME. since it was during the seventh section that I was kicked out, there was no plausible way for her to check my booklet again to see that i had “cheated” a second time

in addition, this date of this test was extremely important since I’m applying to a college summer program (i’m currently a junior) that requires my SAT grade. however, the college program deadline is before the next SAT test

is there anything that can be done? i already called collegboard to lodge a complaint - has anyone had similar cases with positive outcomes?

and cangu1 - what did you actually end up doing?

mom2collegekids: shes a recruited athlete.
