Hi, I am an international student from the Czech Republic. I wanted to ask what is my actual SAT score.
I scored M800 V600
Should I concider only schools around the 1400 average or do colleges wink a blind eye on the lower verbal score of my sat? What is my level? I am pretty confused about which are my match schools with this score.
My other scores:
Subject tests: Math 2: 800 Physics: 780
AP Calculus AB: 5
IELTS: 8
Thank you very much for your help!
It depends on the college. Your score is 1400 but lopsided. Topmost colleges would expect both components to be high. Most schools would not care that one is higher than the other. If you are a STEM major and the college admits by major the low verbal score won’t hurt.
Remember that the test scores are only one component of your application.
They will not turn a blind eye to your verbal score. Both subscores bear equal importance, generally speaking.
Your actual score is 1400, which is a good score. You should target schools where your score puts you above the 50th percentile as match schools, and above the 75th for safety schools. There are other factors to condier though, such as a school’s acceptance rate. The lower the acceptance rate, the less it can be considered a safety or match.
There are many colleges that would love to see a 1400. You have presumably come here looking for suggestions of schools to target. You need to give us more info. What are your finances like? What are you interested in studying? What kind of environment appeals to you? Are you looking for a big research Uni, small liberal arts college, lots of sports, Greek life, clubs, urban, rural, conservative, liberal, etc…?
liberal arts colleges do not tend to admit by major right? which colleges that do admit by major would you recommend for computer science?
ok for more info:
intended major: computer science, maybe mathematics
finances: pooooor, 15k a year, divorced, father not paying
environment: I do not actually mind, but if I could choose I would avoid super urban schools
ideally, a university that is known and respected worldwide, but college is neither a problem.
my primary goals are good income and ability to travel and work anywhere, to be honest
I applied to Princeton ED
Thank you!
Your immediate problem is how to pay for college in the US. If you can only afford 15k ayear, you need a lot of FA. There are not many colleges who will give aid to international students. Those that do are looking for the very best students. You are of course intelligent, but the students that will get aid as internationals will probably have higher SAT scores.
Google college matchmaker .com, 65 colleges that give generous aid to international students. Some of those colleges will probably be happy with 1400. You haven’t mentioned your grades or activities, but those will be important also. High grades, good teacher recs, good essays, good after school activities will all be considered at these colleges.
I meant 15k a year of income. However that still means a lot of FA, I know about that. Thank you for your effort!
