my admission to uiuc might get revoked. please help!

basically i received an e-mail telling me that because of my 2 D's in my senior year grade report, my admission might be revoked. they said i can send in an explanation and here is what i have so far:

Dear ******,
The reason behind my poor academic performance on AP Calculus and AP Lit & Comp was my inability to balance my 5/6 AP course load with the responsibilities I have at home and the pressures of doing well during the most difficult year in high school. Since my mother is a single parent and me being the oldest child of 4, I am responsible for taking care of my siblings, cooking and cleaning the house while she is working.

Throughout my whole high school career I aimed to take as many honors and AP classes as possible. I took classes almost every summer in order for my honors and AP classes to fit in my schedule. But on my senior year, I seemed to have bitten off more than I can chew. Therefore, I decided not to continue with gymnastics and I dropped from AP Calculus BC to AB and from AP Lit & Comp to Expos Comp to try to balance my work load. As you can see from my transcript, it was beneficial for my AP Chemistry, AP Human Geography and AP Gov/Econ grades. It wasn't a big jump and the work load was still a lot, but I didn't want to drop any more classes.

I don't believe that my senior grades reflect who I am as a student or as individual. My house matters hindered my studies during high school, but it'll be different in college. I assure you that once I'm studying at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign only with the responsibilities of a full-time student, I will be completely focused on my academic career and be able to achieve my full potential.

I hope you reconsider my admission and give me this opportunity to succeed in life.
Thank you for your time and have a nice day.
Sincerely,
K

please leave constructive criticism or tell me what my chances are. i got admitted to the college of fine and applied arts, majoring in architecture if that's anything. my explanation is due on july 11th, 5:00pm CST so please respond!

It’s well worded, explanatory, and not full of excuses. I don’t really know how U of Is revoking works, but I feel as if you gave it your best shot and there’s nothing else you can do. The good thing is that architecture isn’t their largest major or anything close to it, so that might factor into it that you’ll have a better chance of staying. Good luck!!

Thank you so much! I feel somewhat relieved.
I e-mail a teacher of mine who used to be an admissions counselor at UIUC and I hope he can give me more advice on what else i can do. Thanks again!

Just wanted to know…WAS your admission rescinded? If so, what did you do?

You do realize the last time the OP was active on this board was about two years ago? I’m sure he’s moved on and isn’t checking for replies
