my apologies, but yes, chances?

I'm sorry, I find these threads just as annoying as you guys probably do. But, I was just REJECTED from UPenn ED, so I'm getting a bit nervous about my RD schools. So, please take some pity on this ivy league reject, and chance me? Thanks so much.

Personal:
Female from Long Island, NY (I know, automatic reject)
White
Competitive public high school
middle-class area; will be applying for financial aid (although I probably will receive none)

Stats:
SATs: 780 M, 760 V, 710 W
2250/2400 or 1540/1600
GPA: 96.658/100 (w)
Class Rank: 18/400 (top 5%)

1 AP Soph year, 4 APs junior year, 4 APs senior year....all 5s on the 5 tests taken so far
Other than the APs, I took every honors/advanced level class available (about 15 total).
I dropped Spanish in favor of taking AP sciences junior year- how much will this hurt me?

Major ECs:
Debate- Captain, competed in state championship, lots of awards
president and founder of 2 other clubs
lots of political campaigning and activism
hospital volunteer- 3 hrs/week for the past 2 years
food bank volunteer- 2 hrs/week for the past year

Thanks for any input. It's greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I guess I should mention a few other things.

Although I hate making excuses, my freshman year grades were pretty low b/c I was suffering from a serious illness, which caused me to miss a few months of school. Since then, there's been an obvious upwards trend. If class rank was based on sophomore, junior, and senior years, I would be ranked 3rd out of 400.

My essay was about my illness and getting past it, and it actually won an award in my school, so I'd say it's pretty good.

My Emory supp. essay is ok...I think I rushed it.

Teacher and guidance recs are wonderful, as far as I know. I was unable to read them, but I have a close relationship w/ the teachers I chose and my GC.

Oh, and my SAT IIs were a 720 in math II and a 720 in literature. Good times.

Now that's really it. I promise!

Any responses would really be appreciated!!!

I think you will make it.

I have similar SAT and GPA, and I rank 6-7 out of maybe 300 or so. My essays were rushed too, and my EC's were mediocre. I got in ED I, and I'd imagine you'd have similar luck, if not better chances.

Oh yeah, and not that it matters, but Emory despite what the web site says, doesn't give a crap about SAT IIs unless you're homeschooled.

thanks for the votes of confidence. You really made me feel better.

I said I was done, but I guess I should mention that I'm a National Merit Semifinalist. That never hurts. =P

i don't know why UPenn rejected you, but you are a strong applicant and you have a great shot.

Penn rejected two kids ED with profiles similar to yours from my school. I just got into Emory ED and I think your chances are very good RD. Go to the ED profile posts for Emory and I think it will put your mind at ease.

Yeah, to be honest, some of the scores in the CC ED thread seem a tad low. Unless Emory significantly started accepting lower SAT/ACT scores, I think us on CC might have lower scores than the avg admit.

Thanks everyone.

Penn rejected everyone from my school who applied ED. I think it has to do with the fact that I live on Long Island.

PM me your hs...I'm dying to know if it's my alumni hs.....(I have a feeling if it isn't, it's closeby)....

insanity90...i was rejected from penn ED too and i have been freaking out thinking im not going to get into college ha...but your chances seem great
