well, like the other 20,000 rejected souls, I called to see just how far off from the cutoff I was.

Close.

With a cutoff of 7506, I got a score of 7306. Exactly 200 points off. That's 7006 for academics and 300 for community service. No points for leadership, despite my presidency of two clubs and highest ranking leadership position in Boy Scouts.

the cut off has risn to 7530. And u have to appeal with information that occured in soph/juinor years. I.E. my friend whose appealing had his grandma die in august, right before taking his october and november sats (he has a death certificate to verify). Not only that, in soph year he volunteered at a Kumon jsut to help his friend out but he negelected to mention that. The owner of the Kumon wrote him a thign saying he volunteered for a 100 hours in the summer adding to his volunteer total. Those are things he can appeal with. Things ur mentioning im not so sure.

Right, but I believe it to be a combination of new/compelling information (the Eagle Scout part)and an administrative error (that I recieved no points for things I already mentioned on my application.)

Just because I got Eagle after I turned it in doesn't mean it should be discarded. If something happened to your grades due to a loss or hardship, and you don't mention it, you shouldn't expect points. But I already had most of the leadership already on my application.

the whole point of the appeal is for you to mention things that you neglected to mention on your original application. Its "new and compelling" information that you disregarded or didnt feel you needed to mention but because people do forget to mention things they dont feel are significant but SD does that is why there is such a thing as an appeal. You got an eagle scout congratulations but it holds no value in points because it did not occur during ur soph/junior years.. If UCSD considered things outside of those 2 years, then everyone who was rejected would be sending in their first semester senior grades and appealing with that.

"Right, but I believe it to be a combination of new/compelling information (the Eagle Scout part)and an administrative error (that I recieved no points for things I already mentioned on my application.)"

The new/compelling information usually means stuff that is new to THEM, not you, that you left out/wasn't represented enough on your app. And I doubt there was an administrative error if you didn't receive points. It just sounds like the things you listed weren't enough to qualify for points. It seems to me, the only people who got points in my school that qualified for leadership in being club president were those who started a branch from a nationally established club that was dedicated to helping the community/people around the world. Starting something like video game club or dance-something-or-other club might not be enough, since there are basically no requirements behind them. Though I'm blindly talking without knowing what club you were president of.'

But hey, it doesn't hurt to appeal. Just don't get your hopes up.
