Hi there,
I currently go to a community college that has 6 campuses across the city. I made a mistake last semester that I applied for graduation for an AA degree. One of the campuses emailed me twice regarding my application, at first they approved it, but shortly denied it. Later in May somehow they approved it again without noticing me anything. And I graduated without knowing it until my cousin said my name was on the list.
My goal is to transfer to a 4-year college and I still need to take 4-5 classes to fulfill the requirement for my major. My appeal for financial aid got denied and my school billed me $1,700 for 4 classes. They said I graduated and exceed maximum credits.
My question is if I transfer to another community college (in the suburb), would I be able to get financial aid to finish the rest of the requirement (1-2 classes)? This is giving me a big headache and I don’t think there is any aid out there until I transfer to a university.
Thanks for reading my post and I appreciate all your help.
$1,700 is not all that much money. Are you working now? How long would it take you to save up that much so you can finish these classes?
For someone working and going to community collage, $1700 can be a lot of money.
How could you graduate if you still has requirement to fulfill
She graduated with an AA…the transfer school wants more.
Can you take out a student loan?
It appears this student has, probably, over 90 or so credits…30 credits more than the required 60 credits. Maybe the student has changed major a number of times. Some State Universities and Community Colleges have policies in place to penalized students who have accumulated a lot of credits. These excess credits can follow the student over to their 4-year university (I have been told).
OP, could you have transferred to the 4-year institution for Major A and once admitted, switched to Major B after doing the 4-6 courses at the 4-year school (I know it is cheaper to do the courses at the CC)? How many credits have you accumulated over the years at the CC?
