My appeal went through!!!!

hey NemesisFang, when did u get yoru financial aid packet? how logn after your appeal? im nervous... good luck everyone!

what did everyones appeal consist of?
i wrote about how my stuttering has affected me my entire life, how my house was robbed and how it affected me, and a recent award i got. what do u guys think?

It all depends on how you sold it. Sorry, I haven't found the time to look at your letter.

You don't have to "sell" yourself in your appeal, you don't need to spend pages "convincing" them about every detail of everything you did.

What they're looking for is new information that you omitted from your application. If you don't have that, your appeal doesn't have too much going for it.

I'm kind of irked that they didn't post their decisions from appeals online today, seeing as the deadline for housing is May 1st...? :(

I have a feeling that the appeal committee works this weekend to get everything done. So, no worries, if you sent it by 4/15.

Thanks for the reassurance, I sent it on the 13th :).

does anyone know when ucla will post appeal decision or anyone got theirs yet?

around 3 weeks after you sent it

The appeal has to be based upon a factual error in your application...so they don't really 'care' about awards that you have won since you sent your app in, higher first semester senior year grades, life challenges, etc UNLESS they were misrepresented in the origional application.

Most people who appeal don't have any "new and compelling" information anyway. It makes those of us who do have a much higher chance :).

haha i agree, aronomy. what was your information again if you haven't already posted? if you don't mind sharing that is

My omissions from the original application weren't THAT significant, but they WERE "new". For one, I didn't put HL (honors level) for one out of state class that was honors. I also didn't mention my leadership position on my women's varsity golf team. I was the captain senior year (I have been playing for all four years on varsity). I also was the sole nominee at my school for this really awesome trip from the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington D.C., it was teacher nominated, and I was the only one in my high school to recieve it. I also didn't mention I am a member of the National Society for High School Scholars (lol..)

So, I just listed the omissions from my application: (copied and pasted):
• Classes I took as Honors (but not listed as such):
o Lab Biology
• Activities and Awards:
o Captain of the Women’s Varsity Golf Team – As a Junior I was awarded MVP, as a Senior I was the Captain of the Varsity team.
o Sole Nominee for the 2006 National Young Leaders Conference – Copy of the nomination letter attached.
o Member of the National Society for High School Scholars – Copy of the nomination letter attached.
• Additional Comments:
o Hardship from changing schools – I moved after my freshman year which caused a discontinuity in curriculum.

I didn't take up much time explaining every detail about everything, I just listed them...who knows if that's a good or bad strategy, I just didn't feel like writing another essay :)

ohh ok that's good info. sorry for the delay... my internet was having some issues with collegeconfidential for some reason. anyway... hopefully monday it comes through! is it true that if we get the appeal through after may 1, and we accept, we arent guaranteed housing?

Lol, the National Society for High School Scholars.

Claus Nobel just wants your money in return for conferences. Blah. At least the membership folder was pretty spiffy.

Yeah, those weren't really that great, as you can see I didn't mention them in my original application, but since I'm appeal...might as well put them in. Mainly I just wanted them to look at my original application again, read my essay again (new reader..). I don't think I have a good chance at winning the appeal, but I didn't want to not try ;).

Hehe, not to worry. I did the same thing too, because I was panicking when I was thinking of stuff to put on my ECs section.

when i sign in to the ucla decision site, (where it says they received my appeal letter) the date is being updated every day, is this weird or what?

It means you got in.

Is that what you wanted to hear? =D

Meza2007--it's not weird. It's just an automatically updated "date" display.

oh ok thanks
