I've been fretting lately over my dbq, this is what I wrote about, I need feedback as to whether it was a good idea/reasonable/what they were looking for. The question dumbfounded me.

I said that it was the economic set up of the nation that caused slavery to both be discontinued and continued in the two very different sections of the US. I only used about 4 documents, and didn't add much about religion.

Am I screwed or what?

The question had two parts - you had to explain why the number of free and enslaved africans increased, and explain how both groups reacted to challenges.

From your post, it seems like you got the first part head on. Did you write about how free and enslaved africans responded to the challenges they faced? Also, using 4 documents is definitely going to hurt your score, but it won’t be as bad as, say, not using any documents.

If you think you answered the question fully, you’re definitely not screwed. You might not be getting a 7+ or anything without good usage of the documents, but you can get a decent score.

Did you also talk about how the slaves and freed blacks reacted? If not, the most you can get is a 5.

yes the economy factored into the first part of the question but you also had to talk about the reaction of slaves, freed or not.
